Job description
We are looking for qualified, engaging, and committed teachers to facilitate a poetry/writing/music program to at-promise youth in Los Angeles County. Applicants must be willing to follow provided curriculum and have the skill and creativity to develop new lessons when necessary. They must have a passion for teaching and developing artistic curiosity and skill in youth in Culver City and at several locations across Los Angeles County This is a full-time position, and the ideal candidate would have a flexible schedule.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching/mentoring young people who have experienced complex trauma ages 13-18
- Experience working with at-promise youth preferred
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent teaching/classroom experience
- Must be a writer and/or poet
- Must have reliable transportation and be flexible to drive and willing to go to different locations as needed
- Understanding of the basic fundamentals of writing and poetry
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge and understanding of Trauma Informed practices preference
- Experience with music production/audio engineering
- Knowledge of music programs such as ProTools, Garage Band, Logic or equivalent
- Experience in developing classroom projects
- Vibrant energy and ability to command classroom attention for hours at a time
- Knowledge of iMovie, Keynote, and Powerpoint a plus
- Detail-oriented with attention to time management and scheduling
- Strong organizational skills
- Reliable communication
- Must have a high level of patience and actively work to understand the needs of specific youth in their learning process
- Appreciation and interest in Hip Hop music/culture
- Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
- Experience working with system-impacted youth is a plus
- Participate in monthly and as-needed instructor meetings
- Knowledge of California Language Arts or Common Core Standards preferred
- Must be willing to undergo Livescan background check and fingerprinting and TB testing
