Overview of CCA and the COSI Back to Work Program

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver.
The Colorado Department of Higher Education's (CDHE) Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) was created in 2014 to increase the attainment of postsecondary credentials and degrees for underserved students in Colorado. Community Partner Program Grants (CPP) are designed to increase the availability and accessibility of pre-collegiate and postsecondary student support services throughout the state.

The multi-year grants are distributed to improve and enhance enrollment and retention in public postsecondary institutions, through proactive advising, wraparound support, and other support services.

On May 1, 2020, CDHE released a request for proposal to solicit applications for a COSI Back to Work grant to support of workers displaced by COVID-19. Community College of Aurora (CCA) received a COSI Back to Work award in June 2020, and is currently funded through June 30, 2023.

The COSI Back to Work grant requires prioritizing of new or re-engaged students who have lost their jobs or experienced financial impact due to COVID-19. The students must enroll and complete-within the grant term-a certification or degree program that aligns with Colorado Top Jobs.

CDHE and COSI seek to improve strategies for engaging adults in postsecondary education. This project not only supports short-term COVID-19 relief efforts but also informs COSI's longer-term strategy to serve adult students.

COSI is particularly interested in which interventions, service models, and critical components of services have the most significant potential to improve enrollment, persistence, and completion outcomes for adults with some college and no degree.
