Federal Data Systems is looking for a Core Network Engineer, the individual will be responsible for the health and maintenance of a large, complex networking infrastructure which includes providing network administration and operational support to more than 8,000 networked devices. The engineer will provide comprehensive network administration, security enhancements and remediation, and troubleshooting of network devices such as routers, switches, load balancers, WIFI, and VoIP. This position requires an understanding of best practices pertaining to network security and may require the development, deployment, and integration of network security services. The Core Network Engineer should be able to work both independently and as part of a team and serve as a liaison with other groups to provide information sharing pertaining to the needs of the diverse set of computer users supported by the client as a whole.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide problem and incident resolution, including dealing with software and hardware vendor technical support and review problems to understand the root causes of issues and ensure proper fixes are implemented.
  • Deploy and maintain network hardware, peripherals, services, and settings in accordance with industry standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Perform daily system monitoring; verify the integrity and availability of networking hardware, services, systems, and key processes; review system and application logs. • Document and conduct changes during ASI windows.
  • Provide on-call troubleshooting, phone support and issue resolution as required.
  • Develop scripts and other automation solutions to aid in the completion of migration and integration tasks.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Due to the nature of this position and the information that the employees will be required to access; U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Four additional years of work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years' experience, or a Doctoral degree may be substituted for three (3) years' experience.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification or higher; One (1) or more of the following active network certifications: - Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) - Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) - Juniper Network Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA-Junos) - Juniper Network Certified Internet Specialist (JNCIS-ENT) • Extensive experience troubleshooting, managing, and monitoring the health of Cisco and Juniper routers and switches and experience managing Cisco Prime and Junos Space.
  • Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network systems, switching, and routing protocol standards such as: TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN, and 802.1x.
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large multi-site environment.
  • Experience with network security, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience using network management and analysis tools such as SNMP probes, network tapes, and traffic analyzers as well as excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.

Desired/Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with NetScout, IBM NetCool and/or Solarwinds NMS products.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting load balancers from a L2/L3 perspective.
  • Experience utilizing Remedy ITSM.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting server operating systems such as Linux, Windows, or UNIX.

Working Conditions:

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.

Background Screening/Check/Investigation:

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will be required as a condition of hire.
