Montgomery County Parks – Information Technology & Innovation Division – is currently seeking a dynamic, highly-skilled, and experienced
Network Services Manager.
Reporting directly to the Information Security Manager, the Network Services Manager will serve as an expert of network operations. You will be responsible for the design, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of the Wide Area Network and Passive Optical Network in Montgomery Parks. You will lead projects that include a network hardware refresh plan, business continuity & disaster recovery preparedness, and the County Fibernet expansion throughout Montgomery Parks.
Examples of Important Duties
- Perform end-user administration and end-user support in one or more functional areas including LAN/WAN, GPON, and other IT technologies.
- Provide an advanced level of troubleshooting support in response to complex problems.
- Participate in IT WAN/LAN planning for new or major renovations at park facilities, including design requirements and budgeting.
- Lead or perform expert day-to-day administration of hosted systems, on-premises as well as at remote data centers. Critical to this position is the ability to work well independently and with internal and cross-team members.
- Possess solid and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Prepare detailed project plans, presentations, procedures, diagrams, and other technical documentation.
- Possess a thorough understanding of technology infrastructure, project management methodologies, and information systems security.
- Take the lead and/or assist project teams with technical issues in all phases.
- Oversight of WAN and other Network monitoring tools.
- Oversight of the WAN help desk ticketing queue including resolution of escalated tickets.
- Frequently travel to Parks sites (valid driver’s license required).
- Provide weekend coverage as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or any related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in information technology support functions.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total seven (7) years.
- Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
Supplemental Information
Preferred Qualifications:
- WAN and LAN design, deployment, and troubleshooting of Active Ethernet and Gigabyte Passive Optical Networks (GPON).
- Cable infrastructure, including Outside Plant (OPS), Inside Plant (ISP), following best practices and codes.
- Power protection best practices, including Uninterruptible Power Supplies and generators.
- Participation with architects, trades, general contractors for new WAN/LAN deployments designs and renovations.
- WAN/LAN refreshes.
- Troubleshooting WAN/LAN problems.
- Other technologies including Wi-Fi and Mesh Networks.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting. Work involves walking, standing, bending, crouching,
and may carry equipment and supplies up to 49 pounds. Work must be performed accurately and may require occasional overtime, after-hours, weekend or on-call work.
