Neutron Scattering Postdoc for Quantum Materials and Strongly Correlated Electron Systems
Job description
The Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (SCES) Team has immediate openings for scientifically excellent postdoctoral research associates in neutron scattering on quantum materials. Our multifaceted, highly collaborative, experimental team has capabilities in sample growth, characterization, device fabrication, and measurements under extreme conditions (high pressure, high fields, and low temperature). We explore new physics through new materials. Our interests for this postdoc position include (but are not limited to): measures of quantum entanglement, topological matter, heavy fermion physics, low-dimensional physics, and quantum criticality. We seek highly motivated individuals who are passionate about physics to develop and explore new ideas on quantum materials and solid-state entanglement.
The SCES team is part of the Materials Physics and Applications Division's Quantum Group (MPA-Q). MPA-Q is a ~60-person, ~$20M, research and development organization focusing on the discovery, understanding, and exploitation of quantum phenomena in materials science, measurement, computation, and secure communications. Areas of research include: strongly correlated electronic and topological materials; condensed matter physics of actinide and f-electron systems; cold atom-based experiments using entanglement in quantum sensing, computing, and simulation; quantum-secured communication for national and energy security; and ultrasensitive magnetic field measurement and magnetic resonance techniques for basic research and applied science.
The successful applicant will benefit from the highly interactive environment within the SCES team, the R&D opportunities of the Quantum Group, collaborations with the nearby theoretical condensed matter group, and close proximity and tight connections with two scientific user facilities located at Los Alamos: the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (MPA-CINT) and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory's Pulsed Field Facility (MPA-MagLab).
Any inquiries about this specific opening and other related opportunities are welcome and may be sent to scheie@lanl.gov.

- Measurements at cryogenic temperatures
- Python/Julia programming
Note to Applicants:
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. In addition to applying on-line, please submit a CV, publication list, a brief statement of research interests and the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of 4 potential references to Allen Scheie (scheie@lanl.gov). Please include a cover letter addressing how you meet the required and desired skills when applying for the position. A current C.V. with the minimum following information/sections is also required: Educational background, degree dates; Work experience; Competitive honors; Relevant extracurricular activities; Peer-Reviewed Publications; Non-peer-reviewed Publications; References. Only complete applications with a cover letter and C.V. will be considered. References will not be contacted without permission from the applicant.
