Duties

As a Nuclear Engineer, you will:

• Conduct assessments to provide critical feedback and objective information on programs and performance in protecting our workers, the public and environment from radiological hazards with a focus on hazardous nuclear facilities and operations.
• Conceive, formulate, establish, and coordinate the requirements for systems safety data in a comprehensive Environmental Safety and Health oversight program.
• Maintain state-of-the-art awareness of nuclear facility design and operations techniques in related research programs.
• Coordinate projects with other oversight professionals and specialists in order to ensure the successful development and operation of a comprehensive nuclear facility safety oversight program for nuclear facilities.
• Apply safety regulations, policies, and procedures in order to determine and measure conformance with required and accepted nuclear engineering and systems safety practices and procedures applicable to the design, construction, and operations of nuclear facilities.

• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
• A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work. Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check
• This position has been designated as Critical and requires a "Q" level security clearance. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance level; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
• This position is included in the Department of Energy's Technical Qualification Program (TQP). The selectee will be required to meet specific technical qualification standards within a reasonable period of time (typically from 12 to 18 months).
