Position Overview
The Professional Development Nurse Educator enhances the performance and professional development of healthcare providers and their continuing competencies. He/She develops and coordinates educational programs and materials specific for nursing and patient care service areas. The Nurse Educator facilitates the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served.
The Professional Development Nurse Educator participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities in an effort to improve quality standards and outcomes as well as staff performance expectations. He/She serves as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information. The Nurse Educator keeps abreast of current research in nursing practice and care delivery and facilitates the implementation of Evidence Based Practice initiatives.
The Professional Development Nurse Educator adjusts working hours and availability as needed or as assigned (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff. The Professional Development Nurse Educator performs utilizing the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Joint Commission Standards, National Evidence Based Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and the SRHS Department of Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.

Education
Graduate from NLN School of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
License
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.
Certification
Must have current certifications in ACLS, BCLS and PALS at (or within 90 days of) job start; must maintain current certifications.
ACLS, BCLS and PALS instructor certifications required at (or within 6 months of) job start; must maintain certifications.
If providing education or training in Women’s/Children’s Services, NRP instructor certification required at (or within 12 months of) job start; must maintain certification.
Experience
Two (2) years’ clinical nursing experience appropriate for area of specialty required. Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred.
Physical Demands
Work is mainly active: involves regular requirements to move about the unit, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting oneself to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard, copier, and 10‐key.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work flexible hours, when required/requested.
Mental Demands
Must possess keen mental faculties in the management of information. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels associated with care of acute patient/family, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers. Work requires superb communication / speaking / enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
Special Demands
Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, understand and set goals. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.). Proficient knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must have a valid driver license as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area.
Must maintain clinical skills and required credentials as needed to perform essential functions and be available to work on the unit during times of high patient census or during crisis situations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $1.00 - $2.00 per hour
