A part-time, permanent, vacancy has arisen for the role of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse Lead based between our regional services in Cork and Limerick predominantly. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive standardised IPC service in line with the IPC annual programme for all of the H&W service lines, which supports safe quality care across Vhi H&W. This will include clinical focus, patient advocacy, education and training, research and audit, and consultation across H&W services. The successful candidate will cover 3 different areas, Screening, Urgent Care, and Planned Care Srvices in the Vhi 3 sites in the regions.

- Act as an accountable role model through the provision of professional leadership and demonstration of best practice in the area of IPC.
- Work as a key stakeholder and member of the IPC team providing expert advice and support to all members of both clinical and non-clinical teams.
- Work as a nurse clinical lead for colleagues in relation to infection prevention and control and work closely in conjunction with associated acute hospitals and community links.
- Be required to provide and maintain a comprehensive, efficient, and effective IPC service by assessing, identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the role in line with national recommendations and guidance, which will be reviewed and evaluated with line management quarterly to ensure performance delivery.
- Carry out the responsibilities of the role with cognisance of national and international best quality assured standards of care.
- Manage service user care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.
- Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
- Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery, and review of service user care by all staff in designated areas.
- Assist in observing and ensuring implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection prevention and control.
- Ensure completion of incident / near miss forms / clinical risk reporting.
- Have responsibility for the monitoring, surveillance, the investigation, prevention and control of healthcare - acquired infections.
- Advise on isolation procedures and support managers in supervising the implementation of such techniques in specific situations.
- Regularly evaluate prevention/control of infection measures in specific situations with a view to advising on continuous improvement.
- Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to patient within the guidelines laid down by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
- Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.
The successful candidate must have:
- Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division
- 5 years post registration experience. It is desirable that the candidate has 1 year of experience working be in the speciality of infection prevention & control.
- Provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher in Infection Prevention & Control.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
- Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- A clean driving licence and access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
- Demonstrate alignment to the Vhi values.
