The New Hampshire Veterans Home has a full time vacancy for Nurse Specialist/Nurse Specialist Trainee.
Summary:
Nurse Specialist Trainee
To perform professional nursing duties utilizing specialized knowledge and skills to ensure the implementation of services and therapeutic interventions based on the nursing process and Standards of Care promulgated by the Department of Veterans Affairs in long-term care. The Nurse Specialist trainee works under the supervision of Nurse Coordinators while obtaining appropriate certification from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying entity.*

Responsibilities:
Nurse Specialist TR:
Observes and assists in providing care and treatment for New Hampshire Veterans Home residents with responsibility for medication administration.
Utilizes professional nursing knowledge and skills in evaluating overall physical and emotional needs.
Provides comprehensive medical treatment planning and works cooperatively with other staff members and disciplines to evaluate residents' progress toward their total treatment plan goals.
Participates in the orientation and in-servicing of nursing and support staff and in Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) projects.
Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the Nurse Coordinators regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions to meet patient needs.
Provides individual counseling/teaching for residents and personnel on specific health concerns or disease processes.

Serves as on-call/PRN (whenever necessary or as needed), as an in-house resource, and works a modified weekend schedule and overtime as required.
Ensures compliance with established State, Federal and Agency policies and procedures.
Nurse Specialist:
Provide care and treatment for our residents with responsibility for administration of medication.Provide comprehensive medical treatment planning, and/or ongoing supervision and training of subordinates.
Work cooperatively with other staff members and other disciplines in evaluating resident's progress towards set goals of the total treatment plan.
Supervise professional and paraprofessional team members.
Provide individual counseling/teaching for residents or staff on specific health concerns or disease processes.
Participates in Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) projects.
Flexible Schedule and modified weekend schedule
PRN (whenever necessary or as needed) Resource for the house
Ensures compliance with established department policies and procedures by maintaining competency in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, human services, psychology, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal
education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Three years' experience as a registered nurse in long term nursing care, ambulatory care, emergency care, psychiatric nursing, medical surgical nursing, or other related nursing specialty. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification:1. Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.
2.Current certification in CPR.
3. Employee must be certified by the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying entity in a specialty that is consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the New Hampshire Veterans Home – long term nursing care and/or dementia within 12 months of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The employee will remain in the Trainee status and appropriate labor grade until certified by a nationally recognized entity is obtained. Thereafter will be eligible for promotion to the full Nurse Specialist position and labor grade 25. Employee must obtain the full certification level of a Nurse Specialist within 12 months of employment in the Trainee position.

Nurse SpecialistMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing or a related human service field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.Experience: Three years' experience as a registered nurse in a health care facility or a related human service field working in long term nursing care and/or dementia. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire.
Certification by the American Nurses Association or an organization recognized by the ANA in a specialty that is consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the New Hampshire Veterans Home - long term nursing care and/or dementia.
