Job Summary: The Clinical Nursing Instructor is responsible for teaching assigned courses under the course description and syllabus established by the faculty and administered by the academic department head for the primary program and Saint Francis Health System Program Coordinator for the Extended Campus. The Instructor will provide supervision of traditional BSN curriculum to provide students with opportunities to complete the nursing program working towards becoming a registered nurse.

Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Master’s degree in Nursing, required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License. BLS and ACLS, preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience with 2 years of progressive responsibility within the education field including adult education or professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability teaching adult populations. Self-starter with strong communication and teaching skills. Experience as a clinical preceptor. Ability to be a positive leader and innovator. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Office, various scholarly platforms and current educational technology.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Instruct, supervise, and evaluate student activities as directed by the primary nursing program. Promote a safe learning environment for the student, faculty, and patient. Participate in updates and revision of course content and teaching methodology ensuring the objectives of the primary curriculum plan are met. Maintain familiarity with current textbooks, instructional materials, teaching aids, and techniques relative to the courses. Maintain attendance and academic records as appropriate and submit required documents to the primary program. Post and observe office hours for planning and student consultation including flexibility in working hours to accommodate clinical assignments. Actively participate in Saint Francis Health System and Primary Program committees, meetings, and video calls, as required. Contribute to and participate in faculty development programs. Identify and pursue opportunities for professional development. Teach classes and clinical utilizing adult learning principles, learning styles, critical thinking, and clinical judgment. Facilitate student clinical assignments for required curriculum, simulation laboratory and clinical time for the Extended Campus.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.

Working Relationship: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
