Job description

Job Summary

Our nursing support roles are integral to the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The below outlined roles perform basic skills per department guidelines and communicate observations to members of the health care team. We offer flexible scheduling options to meet your needs including 4, 8, and 12 hours shifts.

Nursing Technicians play a vital role to providing excellent patient care and have a monumental impact to the successful function of the multidisciplinary team at Corewell Health. Duties include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, wound care, catheterization and ambulating patients.

Unit Secretaries are the “go to” on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls, helping with directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services), assisting with admission, discharge and transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs, etc.

Behavioral Health Technicians provide and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient requiring 1:1 direct observation. The BHT collaborates with the Nurse, the Behavioral Health team, MSW, and the Medical Team to uphold the established behavioral plan for the patient. The BHT stays with the patient at all times during their assigned shift and is trained in verbal de-escalation and situational awareness and provided education on the variety of patient populations encountered. The BHT is cross trained to a limited scope of the Nursing Technician role to learn the skills and tasks of daily patient care and ADLs.

Cardiac Monitor Technicians monitor and interpret patient heart rhythms remotely using telemetry monitoring equipment to notify the Registered Nurse (RN) of any abnormalities or variances in patient heart rhythm to initiate an examination of patients. They document information in patients electronic medical record and answer calls for inquiries concerning patients from medical staff and the patient care team. They also do video monitoring of up to low-risk patients.
