Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption). The Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works in collaboration with the physician and other members of the health care team to manage care for patients in an oncology setting. Provide quality care for cancer patients and their families.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Education: Completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician's Assistance program, whichever is applicable.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in an oncology setting.
License/Certifications:
- APP meeting regulations of North Carolina Board of Nursing with evidence of successful completion and in good standing with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Board, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Board, or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (ANCCPA).
- Current CPR Certification.
Language Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Other Skills: Basic computer knowledge.
Expected Hours of Work: PRN positions work up to 24 hours per week; generally, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able and willing to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Travel: None.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Orders, interprets and records results of clinical tests. Reports results to providers as needed.
- Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
- Ability to perform a head to toe assessment on all patients and reassesses as needed.
- Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Evaluates treatment response.
- Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness.
- Makes appropriate explanation to patients regarding procedures.
- Provides education to patient and family to aide in understanding of treatment plan.
- Monitors patient and physician satisfaction and follows through on needs identified through the monitoring process.
- Maintains current basic medical knowledge.
- Demonstrates competence and skill in the in the application of knowledge.
- Performance of History and Physical exam proficiently. Record review will show 95% or higher compliance with documentation proficiency.
- Record keeping is accurate, complete and timely.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age and gender.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Abide by policies and procedures of AMH.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds greater than 40 pounds requires assistance.
- Visual and hearing ability for patient care activities.
- General indoor conditions, exposure to below 72 degree temperatures.
- Recognize slight differences in shape, color, and texture for different types of lab tests.
- Noise: light to moderate noise.
- Good verbal and written communication skills necessary for job requirements.
- Weekend and evening work required.
Occupational Hazards:
- Potential for exposure to infections patients or materials is negligible.
- Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including blood, urine, bodily fluids, and cleaning solutions).
- Potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items.
- Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.
