The Operations Manager is responsible for directing manufacturing operations of the Thomson Cleveland, OH facility. The position is responsible for providing leadership, managing, and directing the manufacturing of quality products that are delivered on time to customer-required dates and within budget. Manufacturing will be completed in a safe and clean work environment. The position is accountable for achieving product cost targets, maintaining proper inventory levels, and a minimum overhead structure under the Altra Business System (ABS).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for all production functions associated with the manufacturing of products and for operating the plant within the approved budget including achieving product cost/margin forecasts.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, training, recognition and rewards, performance evaluation and management, discipline, employee concerns and staff productivity/labor utilization.
- Accountable for achieving shipment forecasts.
- Promotes the implementation and use of the lean tools to drive continuous process improvements on quality, delivery, and cost.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment that is in compliance with all OSHA and EPA related regulations and guidelines.
- Responsible for timely maintenance requisition of production equipment assigned.
- Mentors and coaches direct reports, including both Supervision and direct labor associates.
- Manages new hire onboarding and current employee development in a manner which meets the future needs of the business.
- Responsible for partnering with Manufacturing Engineering to drive lower product costs by reducing set up times, improving processes and reducing cycle times.
- Must exercise continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on priorities and be technically proficient to “troubleshoot” process and systems.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost reduction is required as well as availability.
- Interacts with Production Control, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, Lean, & Finance functional groups on a variety of Operational Issues.
- Interacts with Thomson and Altra Corporate professionals to share best practices and collaborate on various initiatives.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Education – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Engineering major preferred.
- Experience – Minimum of ten years overall manufacturing management experience is required with at least five years in a similar manufacturing environment preferred. Experience within the Motion Control Industry is a plus.
- Language – English fluency required.
- Functional Training - Extensive experience utilizing lean tools to achieve sustained breakthrough improvements and specific experience with cellular manufacturing, process improvement, and new product introduction is required.
- Travel - Occasional travel required, both domestic and international.
