We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Operations Manager within our Bedding team to help support our US Spring business. As an Operations Manager you will have the opportunity to oversee the Manufacturing Processes of all Branch 02 Departments. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by ensuring operations and production continue to run smoothly. The team you will be working with is close-knit and dedicated, and values honesty and teamwork.
So, what will you be doing as an Operations Manager?
- Keep General Manager apprised of any problems in the areas of production, shipping, receiving, and grievances.
- Works with Plant Superintendents who oversee the entire Manufacturing, to ensure the plant, maintains a production budget, communicates changes that affect all of the employees in regard to safety, quality management, production, and maintenance within the scope of responsibility.
- Work with General Manager to ensure branch operations are effective and orderly.
- Work with Branch Customer Service Manager and staff to ensure the communication of schedules, trucking, and flow of goods are maintained.
- Safety
- Work with the Safety Director to ensure all OSHA and L&P safety policies are being carried out.
- Keep Plant Superintendents apprised of safety deficiencies in their respective department through the monthly safety inspections.
- Maintain weekly safety meetings for plant employees through Plant Superintendents
- Assist Safety/Environmental Manager in environmental tasks.
- Work with the Safety Director to promote safety incentives for Team Leaders as well as plant employees.
- Participate as a member of the Executive Safeguard Committee.
- Lead efforts in keeping the work environment clean inside and outside.
- Quality
- Work with and support the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure all LP-9000 policies are maintained.
- Maintain focus on product specifications with Plant Superintendents.
- Support the Total Quality Management System and duties as assigned.
- Prepare items for yearly budget and make recommendations to General Manager.
- Fill in for Team Leaders as needed.
- Maintain Production Records- safety, quality, disciplinary, and use information to assure successful branch operations.
- Maintain accurate job descriptions along with updated piece rates. Make or suggest changes as necessary.
- Conform to all Quality/ Safety requirements and procedures.
- Participate in training programs.
- Follow all written procedures, work instructions, and inspection plans.
- Keep a clean and orderly workplace.
- Participate in Total Productive Manufacturing Process and 6S Processes.
- Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement Process.
- Identify, record, and communicate any problems relating to product, process, and the quality system.
- Stop the production of nonconformities related to product, process, and the system.
- Initiate action by recommending or providing solutions.
- Verify any action that prevents nonconformities is working.
- Follow up, as necessary.
- Perform other duties assigned by General Manager.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Must have ten or more years of experience as factory Team Leader or equivalent experience.
- Must have good communication skills with the ability to speak and convey ideas and problems to General Manager as well as Team Leaders and plant employees.
- Must have an extensive understanding of the plant operations, human resources, safety, quality management, CIP, MRP II, TPM and LEAN.
- Must be able to work any hour of the day.
- Must be a team player and a team leader.
- Must have the ability to administer all policies and procedures including safety, environmental, manufacturing, etc.
- Must have the knowledge of incentive piece rates- shipping/ receiving.
- Must be accessible 24 hours a day.
- Must be able to perform all physical demands.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work well with others.
- Must exhibit acceptable attendance.
- Six sigma green belt or higher.
