Venice Community Housing (VCH) supports and builds equitable and inclusive communities by providing affordable housing with supportive services, education, employment programs, and public policy advocacy that advances racial and economic justice. VCH is a community based, nonprofit organization engaged in a variety of housing and community development programs.

The Operations Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations and is responsible for implementing and managing multiple aspects of VCH operations, human resources and staff development. The Operations Manager is part of a team of four full-time staff, with the overall goal of ensuring a healthy, safe, compliant, and inclusive organizational workplace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in the implementation and oversight of human resource policies and procedures, including maintaining accurate personnel records and files, advertising and recruiting for new staff, ensuring inclusive and representative hiring practices, orienting new employees, and ensuring annual staff evaluations.
  • Assist with all aspects of new employee selection, hiring, onboarding, and employee exits.
  • Manages the intern & volunteer management for the organization by posting opportunities, responding to inquiries and background checks, tracking monthly hours, and creating annual reports.
  • Participates in recruitment efforts for all personnel, including scheduling interviews, conducting reference and background checks, and supporting the onboarding process including files and documentation.
  • Enter new hire data and employee changes in the HRIS system (ADP Workforce Now).
  • Implement key administrative systems (eg, payroll, vendor management) and processes to ensure they are highly reliable and effective.
  • Troubleshoot computers, printers, and networks, in collaboration with the IT Vendor, and coordinate the repair of equipment by creating service tickets, shipping the equipment, and reviewing repair quotes.
  • Responsible for the organization’s main storage facility, including coordinating document shredding on an annual basis and e-recycle of electronic equipment.
  • Schedule routine maintenance for all company vehicles.
  • Manages VCH’s organizational culture committee and implements events, trainings, incentives and other approved activities of the committee.
  • Manages VCH’s staff development programs, including organizational and individual trainings and the coaching program.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive DEI and anti-racism programs, practices and culture.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience with at least one year of operations and/or organizational administration experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience in benefits/wellness, compensation, performance management, recruitment, compliance/regulations, vendor management, payroll, and other people-related systems.
  • Ability to manage conflicts and challenges patiently and effectively.
  • Ability to interact and work collaboratively with all levels of management, volunteers, staff, the Board of Directors, and the public and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation in order to travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The job frequently requires sitting for extended periods entering data into a computer, and handling objects with hands; the job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.

SALARY:

The salary range for the position is $65,000 to $70,000, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, Aflac, 403(b), vacation, sick time, 14 holidays and 2 personal days. This is an exempt position.
