Howard County MD: Paid Canvasser
Overview
In 1998, the Horizon Foundation was created using the proceeds from the sale of Howard County General Hospital to Johns Hopkins Medicine. The Horizon Foundation has contracted with Strategies for Change Group through the Civics Education Project to be their provider in the direct 1:1 survey canvassing of Howard County, Maryland residents. This is an eight-week program.
About the Job
Racial Justice Ambassador will report to the Canvassing Manager to execute strategy and manage goals from start to finish.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and participating in door-to-door survey engagement of Howard County, Maryland residents
- Detailed and regular reporting of activities and results
- Personally, canvassing communities within assigned jurisdiction
- Personally, reporting results to the Canvassing Manager.
- Canvassing the Howard County, Maryland community on:Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
- Attending scheduled weekly meetings led by the Canvassing Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to hit the ground running – this is a short-term, aggressively paced assignment.
- The ideal candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, able and willing to work long hours and weekends, and importantly, have a strong commitment to social justice.
- The ideal candidate will also have a background in grassroots community activism, and canvassing programs.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, achieve goals and creatively problem-solve.
- Strong interpersonal skills and team player.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail and experience successfully utilizing social media in organizing.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to work independently and in team settings
- Knowledge of MiniVAN/Organizer is preferred but not necessary
- Basic computer literacy and understanding of common political tech, databases, and software
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Access to reliable transportation & possession of a valid driver’s license, cell phone and laptop.
- Must be able to show verification of COVID-19 vaccination
Job Type: 1099 Contract
Pay: $22/hour
