Job Description

We are currently seeking a Park Event Specialist for the Community Services Department. The Park Event Specialist performs general maintenance and grounds activities within facilities and parks, working both individually and with a crew. These activities include picking up litter, weeding out flower beds; pruning hedges and trees; mowing grass; and installing and repairing sprinkler systems; planting and fertilizing landscaping. This position operates power mowers, edgers, clippers and other landscaping equipment. This position may operate other equipment such as backhoes, tractors or dump trucks. The Park Event Specialist also performs general maintenance of our parks and grounds such as repairs fencing, troubleshoots irrigation system issues, and conducts other repairs associated with recreational maintenance. In addition, the Park Event Specialist also provides set-up and break-downs and other general support for a variety of community special events.

The work can be physically demanding and unclean, and the Park Event Specialist may be subject to callback during emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Also, this position may be required to work occasional evening, weekends, or holidays during special events.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and some work experience in lawn care, landscaping, and general or basic construction. He or she must be a self-starter prepared to get to work with a positive attitude and who has the physical strength and stamina to perform the rigorous duties of this job. A valid driver’s license is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs routine tasks such as weeding, raking, watering, mowing, edging, shoveling, field preparation, and litter pick up.
• Completes light construction, repair, landscaping, and facility maintenance duties as assigned following all safety practices/procedures.
• Performs minor and semi-skilled facility maintenance operations such as replacing single motor belts.
• Cleans and repairs trails, sidewalks, playgrounds, play equipment, grounds, and other public owned facilities.
• Removes brush and debris from park grounds, open space, and public rights-of-way.
• Provides support for a variety of community special events, including supporting the event management team, traffic control, site preparation, security, and site clean up.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience preferred.
• Valid Florida driver's license.
• Experience using a variety of hand and power tools.
• Highly professional and dependable.
• Able to work independently on projects and as a member of a team.
• Able to follow spoken and written instructions.
• Must follow all safety and health rules and regulations.
• Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather (heat, rain, etc.).
• Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed.
