The Parking Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and enforcement of all University Medical Center Parking facilities. The unit sells permits (either by cash or through payroll deduction), oversees metered lots, maintains a operational support center for parking lots and garages, and provides assistance to patients and visitors. The issuance and sale of Parking Permits is strictly controlled by the department. Enforcement of all parking areas is performed by uniformed staff in accordance with California Vehicle Code 21113a.

Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to ensure the optimum use of available patient/visitor parking through proper management of parking facilities. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the parking command center which receives calls for assistance and controls access for all parking facilities and may perform as a cashier in a high-volume parking operation. This position supports a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year operation and may work variable shifts and hours.

Required Qualifications
Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid California Driver’s License
  • Several years’ experience providing customer service and support.
  • Experience in an administrative support role required.
  • Experience answering multi-line phones and superior customer service skills required.
  • Experience with communicating via telephone and in person in a clear, mature, cooperative, informative, and diplomatic manner with staff, physicians, executives, and general public.
  • Must have computer experience and be able to use keyboard to access data, basic troubleshooting, etc.
  • Typing skills sufficient to use computer keyboard for timely and accurate input and production
  • Ability to operate electronic fee computer, stock and equip necessary supplies and equipment, and identify malfunctions to communicate information to maintenance staff.
  • Ability to count money, make change, and perform mathematical calculations to reconcile daily deposits with journal.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for electronic cash register or fee computer operation and operate with minimum errors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Customer Call Center/High call volume environment
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking
  • Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service parking control equipment.
  • Demonstrates, by their actions, adherence to the expectation for keeping non work-related conversation brief, low in volume and to follow the guidelines inherent in both the Principles of Community and the Sexual Harassment Policy, as well as, remaining seated while performing the functions/tasks of the position.
  • Ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools.
  • Skill to read and interpret mechanical drafting plans, blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical instruction manuals.
  • Knowledge of California Vehicle Code 21113a and UCD Traffic and Parking code and interpretive skills to apply and utilize appropriately.

  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
