POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing the University community established Operator/Dispatcher communication services. This part-time position will be scheduled to work every other weekend 7:00 am-3:00 pm, as well as assisting with covering additional shifts, vacation, holidays, and sick time for current full-time Dispatchers/Operators.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Serve as communication coordinator for the DePauw University Police Department and Office of Public Safety.
  • Dispatch requests for emergency and related non-emergency services via telephone and radio, to police and security personnel on campus and the Nature Park.
  • Maintain various police logs for record keeping, including the department's daily Activity and Complaint logs.
  • Greet, accommodate, and serve as a resource to all persons visiting the department
  • Serve as after-hours communication for campus and direct calls to the appropriate on-call personnel.
  • Serve as resource for persons calling campus.
  • Direct or, when appropriate, transfer telephone calls to departments/individuals.
  • Provide directory assistance pertaining to DePauw University, including dialing instructions, to the campus community and general public.
  • Attempt to answer (or direct to the appropriate department) telephone inquiries regarding DePauw University and Greencastle (i.e., travel directions, facility locations, office locations, event dates/hours, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.


Experience: Two years of dispatch experience preferred. One year of switchboard and telephone services operation experience preferred.

Communication/Language: Basic: Ability to read, listen to and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and communicate correspondence.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers.

Computer Skills

Requires strong data entry skills and willingness to learn/use department related software.

Certificates & Licenses

Must pass criminal background check in order to become qualified to operate IDACS/NCIC.

Other Requirements

Documented training on switchboard systems preferred.
