Job Description


Shift:

Tour 2 (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Purpose:

To perform assigned duties/tasks and serve as support to the professional personnel providing care to the hospitalized patients.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Checks vital signs and weight.
  • Assist in the admission, transfer and discharge process as assigned; prepare patients for examinations, tests, procedures; participate in conference held by Nursing/Health team which assess the needs of patients and plans nursing care.
  • Participates in PI, the Joint commission and Infection Control activities; maintains standard precautions.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring, records results and reports findings to licensed professional.
  • Assists during endoscopic procedures.
  • Performs electrocardiograms and urine dipsticks and provides licensed professionals with documented results.
  • Responds to patients calls and requests.
  • Promotes good working relationships; behavior reflects professional and cooperative attitude; participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Prepares and collects various specimens for testing, including phlebotomy.
  • Performs the necessary clerical duties involved in the process of a patient care visit, including but not limited to appointments, referrals, chart maintenance and data entry.
  • Performs the necessary documentation utilizing manual or electronic procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of necessary stock and supplies and prepares examination rooms appropriately.
  • Escorts and transfers patients to various departments as necessary.
  • Maintains infection control standards to ensure patient, employee safety.
  • Exhibits courteous and effective communication with all health care team members, patients and families with respect of cultural diversity.
  • Answers routine inquiries of patients in person or via telephone and make appropriate referrals.
  • Reinforces instructions given to patient/family by licensed professional.
  • Maintains patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA rules and regulations.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education; attendance of annual mandatory classes.

Minimum Qualifications


1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
2. Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and
3. Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
Special Note:
In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse’s Aide Certificate.
