Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Patient Financial Services Supervisor. This position offers some remote flexibility along with some requirement to be on-site at our Burr Ridge, IL location.

Job Summary
The qualified candidate will be responsible for the day to day supervision of one of the respective job functions: credit balance review, billing, collections/follow-up, cash posting, customer service, government and non-government sectors etc. This role will assist in implementation and training of new and tenured associates on as it pertains to the job function. The supervisor is responsible for managing staff questions, mentoring staff, and assisting with PFS functions. The Supervisor monitors key metrics and reports to ensure all activities are being completed by staff timely and accurately. The Supervisor conducts quality and productivity reviews of staff members and provides feedback on performance. The Supervisor also participates in the hiring and disciplining of staff members. The Supervisor reports to the Patient Financial Services Manager. This candidate will exemplify the Ingalls Memorial Hospital’s mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the Hospital’s policies and procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Participates in the selection process and onboarding of new associates within the department, including coordination with the training team as needed.
  • Measures staff performance, quality, and productivity and gives timely feedback to team members and leadership. Evaluates the performance of patient accounts staff and processes other personnel actions.
  • Acts as intermediary with Admitting, Outpatient Services, Clinics, Medical Records and other areas within the Hospitals to expedite claims processing and to trouble-shoot any problems that interfere with claims processing. Continually seeks improvement and strives to enhance and streamline operations.
  • Develops and maintains management reports pertaining to functional area for patient accounts; including but not limited to collection/follow-up, billing, credit balances, cash posting, customer service, etc.
  • Prepares patient accounts production reports and feedback reports identifying areas causing problems in the revenue or with patient experience. Prepares and analyzes other reports as requested to support other revenue cycle management initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, documents and maintains unit work procedures and standard work to keep area running efficiently. Assists in the design, building and validation of business process workflows to improve system functionality. Works in accordance with directors of the revenue cycle in the creation of new policies and procedures of everyday hospital operations.
  • Creates a positive working environment that is respectful and pleasant to all team members. Leads and participates in employee engagement activities. Supports and follows Labor Relations administrative policies.
  • Attends seminars, serves on committees that are hospital-based and industry-based, as related to area of responsibility. Stays abreast of all pertinent regulatory and compliance rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma required
  • Minimum 3 years of prior experience in revenue cycle operations required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Hospital billing and reimbursement
  • Third-party contracts
  • Hospital revenue cycle and compliant coding/billing practices
  • Familiarity with CMS regulations and guidelines
  • Epic or Soarian Financial applications experience required
  • Work requires a high level of problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to independently handle multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently
  • Should be a self-starter with ability to work independently and appropriately assess when to escalate issues.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to successfully complete additional job related training when offered.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare, Finance or Accounting, or applicable area
  • Prior experience as a trainer, team lead, or supervisor

Must comply with Ingalls Memorial Hospital's COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment.
