Affinity is currently looking for an Immunization Registered Nurse (RN) to work in our Pediatric Clinics in Monroe.

Job Summary:

The Immunization Nurse will provide clinical and administrative support under direction of the Immunization Program Coordinator. The Immunization Nurse is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of immunization schedules, Advisory Committee for Immunization Practice (ACIP) Recommendations, vaccines, indications, precautions, and contraindications.
  • Demonstrates competency in administering age appropriate vaccines using sterile technique, route, site.
  • Knowledgeable of VFC requirements.
  • Monitor temperatures on refrigerator and freezers twice daily according to VFC guidelines. Report any temperature excursions to Immunization Program Coordinator immediately for guidance. Knowledgeable in use of datalogger.
  • Vaccine accountability with bi-weekly inventory.
  • Review immunization status for all scheduled patients and administer appropriate vaccines.
  • Provide patient education and appropriate Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) at each vaccination encounter. Allow patient to read and answer any questions prior to vaccination.
  • Communicates with front office staff regarding insurance verification, VFC eligibility, administration fees for uninsured individuals, and other items as needed.
  • Assist Immunization Program Coordinator with new hire immunization nurse training.
  • Responsible for proper vaccine storage and handling.
  • May be required to work flu and/or other special clinics as needed.
  • Prepare for and participate in annual VFC on-site assessments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and use of EMR, ImmsLink (interface system between state immunization registry and electronic medical record).
  • Patient and immunization advocate.
  • Documents patient care, observation, and activities according to professional standards and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Knowledgeable and able to use Vaccine Adverse Event Recording System (VAERS).
  • Completes required annual immunization education which includes all updated “You Call the Shots Modules”. Maintains current knowledge and skills in clinical practice including the required continuing education units, promoting professional growth
  • Thoroughly educates and explains procedures to patients and family members and assists them in coping with situation.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the organization.
  • Attends required in-service training (e.g. CPR, Safety, and Infection Control) and staff meetings.
  • Aids in identifying methods of improved patient care.
  • Maintain required records, temperature logs, packing slips, correct action plans per state requirements.
  • Initiate safe and appropriate actions and parent education while giving VFC and private vaccines.
  • Call “vaccine only” appointment no shows to reschedule appointments.
  • Assist with patient recall to improve immunization rates.
  • Strive to avoid any “missed opportunities” for vaccination.

Marginal Duties:

· Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Current license to practice as a RN in the State of Louisiana
  • Previous experience in the pediatric field is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with immunizations is preferred, but not required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification
  • Customer service-oriented attitude/behavior
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures

· Works under general supervision of the Immunization Program Coordinator.

Overtime will be occasionally required
