POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Theatre and Performing Arts Production Graduate Intern assists in executing performing arts events in music and theatre including the Green Guest Artist Series and similar performances. This position supports the Green Center for the Performing Arts production staff, and over the course of the year will work with front of house, back of house, technical theatre, set construction, and event planning, as assigned by the Design and Technical Director and the Event Production Coordinator.

Yearlong Duties

• This role is scalable based on the skills and experience of the individual. Additional responsibilities and scope can be added if desired or needed.
• Assist the Technical Director/Designer with basic carpentry for framing flats and platforms, use of power tools such as a drill, chop saw, table saw.
• Run the counterweight rail; load arbors, pipe drops, move soft goods, screens, under direction from the Technical Director/Designer.
• Hang and focus theatrical lighting.
• Work at heights up to 50' on the loading rail, catwalks, and 30' on a Genie lift.
• Operate, at a basic level, an ETC Console (plug, patch, address, call up channels, write and record simple cues).
• Set-up and operate sound equipment (handle microphones, speakers and cables, etc.).
• Manage front and back of house, as assigned.
• Act as Stage Manager for single-night events and full productions as assigned.
• Assist in the moving of equipment, instruments, risers, platforms, scenery, props, etc. as needed.
• Assist in supervising and instructing student workers in the scene shop.
• Assist in cleanup activities in performance venues and the scene shop.
• Other duties as assigned.

Educational Opportunities

• Work with Design and Technical Director and Event Production Manager in planning and executing large-scale events.
• Train on front of house and back of house etiquette with Event Production Manager.
• Become more proficient on technical theatre aspects such as lights, sound, and set design with the Design and Technical Director.
• Learn about contract creation, contract execution, and technical riders.
• Support these various areas, as assigned, throughout the year.
• Other educational activities as opportunities arise throughout the year.
• Develop a portfolio for future job or graduate school applications.

Education: Bachelor's degree with experience in performing arts required.

Experience: Possess demonstrable experience in scene shop work, in technical and other production work for performances and events, working in a team setting, working with the public.

Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills. (MS Office Suite, and Google Calendar and Applications, Online Data Entry, Experience with AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks desirable)
