Job Summary
The purpose of this recruitment campaign is to form a panel from which permanent positions may be filled.
Reporting to a designated senior officer, Assistant Engineer’s work as part of a team developing the implementation of civil engineering and multidisciplinary programmes in the areas of roads and associated structures, water, wastewater, housing, and other ancillary services. The initial placement from this recruitment competition will be to assist with the development of the pavement overlay programme.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of duties which may be assigned to an Assistant Engineer:
- The supervision and contract administration of construction/operations/maintenance works.
- Preparing and monitoring programmes and budgets to ensure that works are implemented on time and on budget.
- Assess ongoing and completed works and manage budgets
- Arrange for the design and delivery of roads infrastructural projects
- Prepare work programmes
- Prepare tender and contract documentation
- Assess planning applications from an engineering perspective
- Represent the Council at meetings with staff, elected members, community/general interest groups, businesses and residents
- Prepare reports for these meetings as required
- Reply in a timely manner to all correspondence and requests for reports
- Liaise with and respond to other local authorities, government departments and statutory agencies
- Complying with Health and Safety legislation and procurement rules.
- Maintaining good records
- Ensuring an efficient and effective response to all stakeholders.
- Attending training as required.
- Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Each Candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:
- hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) in Engineering;
- have at least two years satisfactory relevant engineering experience; and
- possess a high standard of technical training and experience.
