Iwasaki Bros. In. is a family-owned Wholesale Greenhouse Business located in Hillsboro OR recognized for quality bedding plants grown on 60 acres. We supply retail customers with annuals, perennials, baskets, vegetables, herbs, and planters for retail chain garden centers in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a hybrid position where the employee will work in two departments. Support Pest Management department during their busy season. The other time of the year work in the Maintenance department.
Integrated Pest Management Support - Able to follow basic instructions and learn basic equipment operation under constant supervision. Soil tests: Support the IPM department in plant health care protocols and management. Conduct IPM applications: weed control. Position requires basic mechanical skills, good organizational skills, read, write and count accurately. Must understand the chain of command and follow procedure. Consistent productivity is expected.
Maintenance - Has a strong foundation of maintenance basics. Able to conduct daily greenhouse inspections; recognize and make minor repairs related to facilities: assist in upgrade projects and new constructions under supervisor direction. Able to follow instructions, have basic tool and equipment knowledge, and ability to operate under minimal supervision. Consistent productivity is expected. When directed leads level 1 employees.
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT SUPPORT - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct weed sprays inside and outside of greenhouses as directed.
  • Mechanical weed control (such as hand-pulling, using weed whacker/bush cutter).
  • General landscape maintenance (road frontage, new plantings as needed).
  • Manage fertilizers and sanitizers in stock tanks.
  • Soil testing: a methodology for sampling and conduct soil samples for testing.
  • Follow IPM protocols: support in bio release. Maintain trap or banker plants, follow correct release procedures for each predator. Help change out sticky cards; release certain beneficial, place trap plants).
  • Monitor weeds in and around greenhouses and nursery structures. Hand-pull weeds or apply herbicides in accordance with department protocols.
  • Assist in daily cleaning, organization, and maintenance of IPM department areas.
  • Communicate to the appropriate chain of command effectively between IPM Department and other departments to the main efficiency.
  • Able to operate all equipment assigned.
  • Promote company safety culture and policies. Ensure employees are appropriately using required PPE for tasks. Report safety issues to supervisor.
  • Safeguard all section equipment/tools and return to proper storage.
  • Other related work duties required by supervisor.
  • Assist other departments when workload requires, at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all company policies.

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT SUPPORT - ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and maintain productivity expectations.
  • Basic knowledge of common weeds.
  • Intermediate math skills: accurately calculate square footage, correct PPM or ounces/gallon for varying concentrations of chemicals, mix appropriate amounts, and complete all paperwork correctly.
  • Able to organize and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Intermediate reading and writing skills. Ability to correctly interpret product labels and MSDS.
  • Able to communicate in English to provide direction and communication within the various departments. Work well and communicate with other employees.
  • Ability to operate all equipment. Demonstrate safe working habits in all tasks to include reporting all accidents, property damage, problems with equipment immediately to the supervisor.
  • Mechanical skills to operate and maintain equipment.

MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2A - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in conducting inspections of systems in assigned greenhouses (roofs, walls, heaters, Biotherm, plumbing, and irrigation system). Making minor repairs as directed. Accurately notes and informs immediate supervisor of major issues.
  • Completes daily work orders.
  • Assist in maintaining structures, construction projects, and system installations.
  • Able to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment properly.
  • Direct and lead up to 3 in maintenance tasks. Monitor their work for quality and productivity per management guidelines.
  • Able to equipment and vehicle assigned with training/certification to transport material.
  • Reports to immediate supervisor (Mechanical Supervisor or Construction Lead) any problems with carts, tractor, and equipment immediately.
  • Safeguard all section equipment/tools and return to proper storage.
  • Promote company safety culture and policies. Ensure employees are appropriately using the required PPE of tasks.
  • Other related work duties required by supervisor.
  • Assists other departments when workload requires at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all company policies.

MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2A - ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
  • General knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical assistance using appropriate tools.
  • Ability to use basic math (add/subtract/multiply/divide). Basic reading and writing skills. Measure accurately.
  • Able to work well, communicate and direct other employees.
  • Ability to operate all equipment/vehicles.
  • Demonstrates safe working habits in all tasks to include reporting all accidents, property damage problems with vehicles and equipment immediately to supervisor.

EDUCATION:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
At least one to two years experience working in a related field with nursery production or plant knowledge and have the skills of a level 2A employee or have an equivalent Production experience at another Greenhouse business.
  • Weed control: 1 year (Preferred)
  • General Maintenance: 1 year (Preferred)

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Oregon Private Pesticide Applicator License desirable.
Job Types: Full-time
Salary: $14 to $16.00 /hour
