Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for operating department in compliance with Morton safety, environmental and health rules and regulations.
  • Accountable for the salt storage, solar salt drying and screening, packaging and bulk salt equipment
  • Accountable for PLC’s and process system controls to deliver a consistently high-quality product
  • Accountable for maintenance and engineering budget.
  • Accountable for equipment and its reliability and maintaining a sound PM program.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods, such as lean manufacturing, to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
  • Incorporate new manufacturing methods or processes to improve existing operations.
  • Determine root causes of failures or recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods, using statistical procedures.
  • Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
  • Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.

  • Maintenance of the buildings, grounds, equipment and accessories for the facility.
  • Requisition or Purchasing of all related services and materials required for maintenance work.
  • Work with vendors on cost and availability, and submits requisitions to obtain needed parts and services.
  • Arranges for rental equipment for plant needs as needed.
  • Direct the actions of the Storeroom Coordinator to maintain adequate spare parts inventory and parts to support the operation.
  • Direct and indirect supervision, training and coaching of maintenance employees, manage outside contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate contractors for all repairs beyond the capability and availability of in-house Maintenance staff. (Major welding, electrical or structural repairs).
  • Develop department budget for parts, services, and labor. Completes reports with detail explanation of variances.
  • Utilize SAP and management tools, manage the work order, and preventive maintenance program for the production equipment, building maintenance, mobile equipment and plant accessories.
  • Manage the PM process within the facility and updates priorities to identify areas for reliability improvement.
  • implements improvements in the processes and equipment to ensure quality and reliability to reach production goals and adherence to schedule.
  • Perform other related duties, as required.

  • Promotes open and honest communication.
  • Monitors performance of direct reports and ensures accurate maintenance hour reporting against work orders.

  • Manages employee and labor relations matters in conjunction with Human Resources, as appropriate.
