The Department of Surgery encompasses a wide variety of surgical specialties. These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The Department’s extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.

Responsibilities
The Reconstructive Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) assists the team in all aspects of patient care of general plastic reconstructive surgery as well as hand/upper extremity as needed. This position involves practice in every setting of care delivery including the emergency department setting, inpatient ward, perioperative arena, outpatient clinic and operating room. Surgical assistance in the operating room is expected on an occasional, as-needed basis. On-call duties may be required on an occasional, as-needed basis. This position will work approximately 50% in-patient and 50% out-patient.
Required Qualifications
  • California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Current AHA CPR/BLS Certifications
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Valid DEA license within three months of hire
  • CITI Certification prior to any involvement in Clinical Research
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies
  • Experience documenting medical records appropriately
  • Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects, and potential toxicity

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to learn to assist in operations, performing tasks under direct supervision of the attending surgeon
Special Requirements
  • Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
  • Working knowledge of HIPPA regulations
  • Knowledge of medical billing procedures and policies
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Able to lift 25 pounds, see well enough to read gauges and identify injuries
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment
