GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, this position is a civilian job responsible for performing facility and
security projects for the Police Department. Reports to a Police Sergeant.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinates and oversees the maintenance of Police headquarters and forensic facilities to include
plumbing, HVAC system, electrical, emergency generator, ground, fountain, and monument
maintenance; troubleshoots issues and schedules repairs; ensure the contractors are maintaining the
equipment as contracted; provides oversight of the janitorial staff.

Monitors and maintains security cameras and recording systems for Police headquarters. Serves as a
liaison for the security and alarm systems and with the Information Technology Department on
telephone assignments; programs burglar alarm systems; creates levels of access to secure areas to
assigned personnel, issues proximity cards, conducts locker assignments in the locker rooms and in
the detective bay and maintains the inventory of door and desk keys.

Coordinates new facility construction, facility renovations and projects.

Performs administrative support functions to include preparing reports, overseeing multiple
maintenance contracts, maintaining records and files of services and maintenance activities and
monitoring work orders and service requests.

Performs miscellaneous tasks to include changing light bulbs, moving furniture, modifying counters
to accommodate computers and other related duties.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Maintenance - Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of structures,
mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems and process equipment to include procedures for
diagnosing malfunctions as well as the operation of assigned equipment.

Project Management – Knowledge of organizing, planning, coordinating, managing and directing
comprehensive facility projects.

Technology – Knowledge of general office equipment and personal computers to include word
processing, spreadsheet, and related software.

Security – Knowledge of security and alarm systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships
with employees and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments,
organizations, vendors and contractors.

Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and related
software with reasonable speed and accuracy.

Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of
completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements
work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.


REQUIRED ABILITIES

Communication – Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas and proposals effectively so
others will understand to include preparation of reports, agendas, and policies. Excellent ability
to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. Ability to
handle a variety of human resources issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Judgment & Decision Making – Ability to anticipate, identify and evaluate potentially dangerous,
unusual or deviating situations and to exercise appropriate judgment to establish priorities and
take prompt action for problem resolution.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma and 3-5
years of related experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state and federal criminal
history check; sex offender registry and credit check.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort.

Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and crawling.

Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight
(12-20 pounds).

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, textures, and visual
cues or signals.

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such
as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, weather, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise
extremes, hazardous materials, fire, traffic hazards, toxic agents, explosives, firearms, violence,
disease or rude/irate persons.
