Salary $66,000-$80,600 yearly

$31.80-$38.75 per hour

plus training incentives currently $4300 per year

based on qualifications and experience

Must meet the job related physical and psychological requirements.

Under the general administrative direction of the Public Safety Commissioner, manages and directs all activities, programs, and employees of the Police Department, including enforcing laws and ordinances, preventing crime and protecting life and property; performs related work as required. The work in this class involves responsibility for exercising administrative leadership and supervising all police functions of the City, including directing, planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluating all activities and programs of the department, including patrol, traffic, criminal investigation, and related activities and services. The Police Chief is responsible for planning the department’s response to an unusual occurrence. Work includes assuring the proper training, assignment and discipline of all departmental members. The Police Chief has technical independence in administering the activities and programs of the department and is responsible for internal policy and control.

Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by seven years law enforcement experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity, or Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration, Criminal Justice, or closely related field supplemented by five years directly related work experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity. (See KRS Chapter 95 for additional requirements.)
