Volunteers of America (VOA) is seeking a Post Release Case Manager in our post incarceration program, which supports our work being done regionally in Waldo and Knox County. The Case Manager's primary job functions are:

  • Manage client caseload assigned according to the program contract.
  • Build positive working relationships with clients while they are at the program.
  • Work cooperatively and coordinate with the program staff all aspects of the Aftercare case plan.
  • Facilitate support groups as designated by program director to address risk factors of residents.
  • Provide mentoring and support for the clients participating in the program.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records, logs and reports and submit to the Program Manager.
  • Develop and maintain awareness of community resources to pursue programming and resource opportunities.
  • Provide referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Complete client assessments as and when required.
  • Identify significant supports needed and develop a comprehensive, non-redundant case plan that addresses criminogenic risk factors and reflects contributions from multiple service providers; and modify the plan as client circumstances, policy mandates and needs dictate.
  • Maintains positive working relationships both internal and external constituents.
  • Represent the agency in collaborating with other community-based agencies to expand service networks.

The Case Manager is responsible for assisting residents with employment, housing, treatment, living skills, and other issues for ensuring a successful transition into the community. Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and maintaining productive relationships with clients and their families,
  • Keeping case records,
  • Group facilitation of skill and cognitively based programs, and,
  • Ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with the funding source, program, and agency policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field is preferred;

2. A minimum of one year of relevant, transferrable experience as a case manager is required; experience working with program-defined population is preferred;

3. Four years of experience working with offenders may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree, or any combination of experience, training and education that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities;

4. Experience in individual case planning and management, resource development, and group facilitation;

5. Ability to motivate a challenging population and achieve self-sufficiency outcomes;

6. Excellent written, oral, organizational, and record-keeping skills;

7. Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends;

8. A valid state of Maine driver’s license, a good driving record and a reliable vehicle is required;

9. Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

10. Must currently work with one of our Programs in Maine or New Hampshire, until a time we assess the need to open the post outward to a greater pool of applicants.

VOA Northern New England’s Community Justice division is based out of Waldo and Knox counties. This position is in Belfast, ME with some travel to Rockland, ME. We currently have programs in reentry, diversion/deflection, and post-release services. The Community Justice team works out of three offices in Belfast. 1. MCRRC is a community-based residential reentry center, which is a restricted-access secure facility, at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. 2. Project Connect houses several different staff working under various grants and contracts to best connect individuals involved with the criminal justice system wherever they are at in the system. 3. Project Connect’s sister-site operates in much the same way, with the added benefit of offering services to clients currently incarcerated at Knox County Jail.
