Principal Data Engineer
Location: Galway
We are currently seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join Asset Management’s Quantitative Research & Investing Technology (QRIT) division. The successful candidate will join the data engineering team, working on building a Quant data platform supporting and enabling the investment process. Successful candidate will be leveraging their experience in designing and implementing database applications using Oracle, Snowflake & Python in an Amazon Web Services (or similar) cloud computing environment.
The Expertise We’re Looking For
- 7+ years’ experience as software engineer, delivering software using agile SDLC and promoting CI / CD engineering practices.
- Exposure to building solutions for data warehouse and experience in working with large data sets
- Database knowledge, i.e. RDBMS Oracle/PLSQL, OODB, ODS, Warehouse, Cloud AWS
- Data movement and ETL experience.
- Experience with Python development and python packages such as Pandas and NumPy
- Experience with AWS/Azure cloud environment development and deployment is a plus
- Experience with Cloud data storage and access using Snowflake / S3 is a plus
- Experience with Git/Bitbucket Server (Stash), Jenkins, and uDeploy is a plus
- Financial Services experience is a plus.
- It would be good to have experience in implementation of a research project through the entire software development lifecycle applying a full-stack implementation.
- Bachelor's degree (or above) in a quantitative or computational field such as Statistics, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required ensuring analyses are thoroughly vetted and sound
- It would be good to have experience in either equities, fixed income, or alternative asset classes.
- You demonstrate a test first development approach to developing software and can build or contribute to automated testing frameworks that can detect any anomalies in functionality, performance and integration.
- You can clearly document design options and decisions, and present these in an organized manner to technical as well as non-technical audiences.
- You are a strong contributor with a collaborative work style in building, crafting and reviewing code
- Adept at detecting scope changes and calling out issues
- Add scale, rigor, and repeatability to research through software development standard methodologies.

- Leading and supporting the ongoing development of members of your Engineering team
How Your Work Impacts the Organization
The position aligns to the Asset Management Technology organization which provides worldwide technology and support to the Investment Management, Research, Trading and Investment Operations functions. This Principal Engineer role performs technical leadership of a team developing consistent, reliable, maintainable, performance focused code for the Quantitative Analysts.
The team environment consists of a global Quantitative Research & Investing Technology team of 140+ associates.
