Principal Database Engineer
Overview:
- Provide world-class support and expertise to MasterCard’s Commercial Application Database environments.
- Mastercard’s Database Consultants set the direction for the enterprise leadership to design and build highly scalable and efficient solutions.
- Represent Mastercard’s Database Engineering team as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Continually look for opportunities to create efficiency and provide expertise to integrate technologies and platforms into current environments.
- Provide leadership and contribute to technology roadmaps to support Mastercard’s vision.
Role:
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Displays excellent collaborative skills to facilitate cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work with team members located in multiple geographies and time zones.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision seeking direction as required.
- Acts as a “go-to” resource for all technical data engineering questions and consulting (physical database design, performance tuning, implementation etc) and have responsibility for database architecture for a business area.
- Reviews existing configurations and installations and provide design decisions for improvements to platform environments.
- Performs escalation support for production issues
- Works with multiple application teams and developers.
- Leads and sets direction for Mastercard’s use of best practices and application database solutions.
- Supports database technologies which should ideally include (but not limited to):
All About You:
- Strong experience with large RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
- Strong trouble shooting skills across various database technologies.
- Strong experience with database server features and support, clustering, replication, high-availability, backups etc
- Very Proficient with database installation, configuration, architecture and networking.
- Very proficient with database multi-master replication solutions.
- Very proficient with tuning queries to run efficiently on databases, particularly across large data sets.
- Very proficient with PL/SQL and SQL.
- Proficient with Linux.
- Working knowledge of scripting languages, KSH, Python, Perl, etc.
- Working knowledge of Application Architectures a plus.
- Knowledge of Cloud Technology a plus.
Education (preferred):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.
