A Principal Engineer VI has an extensive engineering knowledge and may provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the respective field of engineering. This individual is responsible for providing guidance and oversight to multiple teams working on numerous projects. A Principal Engineer VI manages all phases of a technical project from conception and design to completion, while providing engineering guidance to other departments and training new engineering staff.

CHA’s Traffic and ITS team provides planning, analysis, modeling, and design development for public and private sector clients. Our team of traffic engineers, transportation planners, and technical staff provide a comprehensive breadth of knowledge and experience in all facets of modal mobility, accessibility, safety, technology, and deployment. From roadside sign inventories and safety audits to the latest intelligent transportation system (ITS) innovations and applications, our professionals are adept at managing the entire design development and implementation process.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required; Master's degree is preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
- A minimum of 15 years progressive engineering experience is required
- Expert knowledge of the respective engineering discipline(s) with a proven ability to practically apply best practices
- Proficiency with MS Office software required
- Understands QA/QC procedures and basic business practices as well as laws related to engineering
- Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
- Completely familiar with and advocates for the company’s standards for quality control and compliance
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of fundamentals in specialty areas
- An active role in a professional engineering society/organization preferred
- Proven ability to lead a team
