ANTICIPATED OPENING FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEARFUNDING CONTINGENT ON TOWN MEETING APPROVAL MAY 24, 2023BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLSBELLINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTSVACANCY # 65DATE: May 4, 2023TITLE: Principal DiPietro Elementary SchoolSALARY: Commensurate with experienceREPORTS TO: Superintendent of SchoolsSTART DATE: July 1, 2023SUPERVISES: All personnel serving in assigned school as directedFUNCTION: The Principal of DiPietro Elementary School, working directly under the Superintendent of Schools, or his designee, shall have the administrative responsibility for developing, organizing, and maintaining relevant instructional services to promote the educational development of each student attending DiPietro Elementary School.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In general, the Principal shall be the educational leader and manager of the school and shall supervise the operation and management of the school and school property, subject to the supervision and direction of the Superintendent. The Principal shall be responsible, consistent with the district personnel policies and budgetary restrictions and subject to the approval of the Superintendent, for hiring all teachers, instructional or administrative assistants, and other personnel assigned to the school, and for terminating all such personnel, subject to review and prior approval by the Superintendent and subject to the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 71, as amended by the Education Reform Act of 1993.The Principal shall diligently, faithfully and competently perform the duties and responsibilities imposed upon, contained in, or required of the Principal under the following: The statutes of the Commonwealth including, without limitation, M.G.L. Chapter 71Policies of the Bellingham School CommitteeDirectives of the Superintendent of Schools and/or his designeeThe Schools annual School Improvement GoalsRegulations of state agencies, and the regulations and requirements of grants, special or mandated programs.Specifically, the Principal has the following professional duties and obligations in order to promote educational excellence for all students assigned to DiPietro Elementary School: Within the SchoolAdministers the school and its instructional program in all its facets.Maintains a safe, orderly and welcoming school environment.Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.Assures equity and inclusion for all students.Maintains clear and effective communications.Implements School Committee policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to DiPietro Elementary School.Studies the educational needs of the district served by the school; develops and implements plans for meeting them.Develops school improvement goals designed to affect improved student outcomes.Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.Designs programs to educate relative to goals and objectives of the school District and DiPietro Elementary School.Develops a program of public relations in order to further the communitys understanding and support of the educational program at DiPietro Elementary School.Promotes participatory decision-making including staff, parents, community and students.Evaluates and modifies curriculum and extra-curricular activities on an ongoing basis.Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business as well as overseeing the development of the master schedule.Prepares a preliminary budget at request of the Superintendent and administers the approved school budget upon adoption.Continually assesses and maintains adequate and appropriate educational materials (textbooks, supplies, equipment).Supervises the instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and student activities.Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the students.Under the direction of the Superintendent, develops and oversees the schools standardized testing program and reports the results promptly to the Superintendent.Meets regularly with teachers for the purpose of coordinating the school programs and establishing and discussing total school policy.Within reasonable limits, delegates authority to appropriate personnel to assume responsibility for various aspects of DiPietro Elementary School.Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development in conjunction with Curriculum Director.Supervises the school faculty and staff, providing assistance and evaluating job performance on a continuing basis.Recommends appropriate action for substandard performance of faculty and staff, including disciplinary action and termination, if necessary.Establishes rules and regulations for proper student conduct and maintenance of student discipline.Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and events.Coordinates or supervises such support services as maintenance, transportation, security, safety, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, library activities, and other related areas, as well as functions assigned by the Superintendent.Works to develop positive and productive relationships with parents of South students.Within the School DistrictKeeps the Superintendent informed of the schools activities and problems.Is committed to working as a contributing member of the administrative team.Prepares and submits in a timely manner such reports as may be required by the Superintendent of School Committee.Works with various members of the central administrative staff on system-wide programs, such as curriculum revision, in-service training, transportation, special services, federal programs, and food services.Meets periodically with middle school and high school administrators and other personnel to ensure proper articulation of programs between schools.Participates in principals meetings and such other meetings as are required to facilitate the educational program.Assists in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the elementary level professional staff.Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding of and to solicit support for school and district objectives and programs.Maintains awareness of local bargaining agreements and their effects on daily operations.When requested by the Superintendent, recommends changes and improvements in collective bargaining agreements with employees of the school district.Performs additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent.Within the ProfessionDevelops a personal Professional Improvement Plan each year in consultation with the Superintendent.Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field, and through continuing education.Maintains awareness of federal, state, and local regulations affecting his/her school.PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Certification as an elementary school principal in Massachusetts (or provides eligibility).2.Minimum of five years teaching experience required.3.Minimum of three years administrative experience required.4.Demonstrated leadership in staff and curriculum development.5.Masters Degree in Education, or higher.6.Administrative and/or supervisory experience preferred.7.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Good health willing to submit to a medical examination.2.Vigorous leadership qualities essential.3.Ability to get along well with ones colleagues and the public.4.Ability to relate with students and establish a good rapport.5.Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.EVALUATION PROCEDURE: 1.Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the standards and procedures for administrative personnel.
