Meta is looking for a Privacy Policy Manager with expertise in privacy, technology, and human rights to join our Privacy and Data Policy team and help us build products in the best interests of our users. Privacy and Data Policy’s mission is to develop privacy-protective and innovative approaches to data that help bring the world closer together and improve people's lives. The Privacy Policy Manager will work closely with EU policy teams, as well as global internal and external experts on data protection. In this role, you'll help shape the company's approach to privacy while supporting London-based product teams that develop tools to keep our community safe.You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional partners across the company to build privacy into the products and services that are designed to keep the community safe while supporting people’s voice and free expression. The role requires an understanding of and ability to balance the multiple rights that people enjoy or want to enjoy across our services. You'll serve as a subject matter expert for Meta's global policy team on Meta's products and work with our teams to evaluate and respond to related legislative and regulatory developments, and to engage with external experts on privacy and data protection around the world.This candidate will be deeply familiar with privacy issues for social media and messaging services, especially in areas related to sensitive information such as account authentication and digital identity, as well as proportionality and using information about individuals to enforce against complex and severe community harms. The ideal candidate for this role is a self-starter, a good team player, and creative problem solver that is able to switch easily between detailed work and high-level strategic thinking. This candidate will also have a meaningful understanding of stakeholders and perspectives in the privacy community, be able to use this understanding to promote privacy within product teams, and be able to explain and seek feedback on our privacy approach with key advocacy groups, policymakers, academics, and researchers from around the world.Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment and presenting to internal and external audiences. - Evaluate and provide guidance on the privacy implications of safety and security tools, including identity verification and actor-level identification and enforcement
- Work with software developers, designers, lawyers, product managers, and others to help interdisciplinary teams simultaneously address policy, legal, engineering, user interface, business, marketing and other privacy requirements
- Serve as an effective representation of Meta regarding privacy issues, including in external meetings and conferences
- Analyze global legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data security and other technology issues
- Consult with external privacy experts to improve our approach to building safety and security products and effectively represent Meta’s perspective on smart regulation that takes both privacy and safety into account
- Analyze global digital identity proposals and work with product and interdisciplinary teams to develop Meta’s approach
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with written policy analysis, written product guidance, and/or briefing memos for executives
- Experience counseling clients around privacy, human rights, or policy issues and managing multiple priorities
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience prioritizing multiple, simultaneous projects
- Experience completing self-guided/independent projects
- A number of years experience with privacy, data security, or human rights and technology issues is required or an advanced degree in a similar field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in negotiations or diplomacy
- Experience with creating and delivering public presentations
- Working familiarity with privacy legislative frameworks, especially with respect to sensitive information types, including identity information
- Experience with privacy and/or technology policy issues related to freedom of expression, consumer security, criminal trials and due process, immigration, digital identity, or similar fields that work in difficult questions of human rights
- Experience working with government agencies or regulatory bodies
