Production Engineer

Overview/Objective Summary:

Innovative flow battery company is seeking a Production Engineer. The PE will apply engineering principles and a hands-on approach to drive operational excellence. The role requires collaboration with cross functional teams to effectively support operations and R&D department. The main goal of this role is to support the company’s objective to bring our battery to market for rapidly growing need for long duration energy storage applications.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Establishing good Manufacturing Engineering concepts to current processes and equipment.
  • Commissioning of new equipment and implementation of new processes.
  • Support manufacturing operations and activities. Ensuring all equipment meets cycle time expectations, efficiencies, and availability. Support continuous improvement
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance.
  • Track and understand overall equipment efficiency and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Work with Product Engineering, R&D, and Ceramic Production Team to continuously improve processes from design to implementation.
  • Support Operations with installation and commissioning of new process equipment.
  • Support R&D activities with design of experiments.
  • Support Product Development with engineering support of demonstration units and creation of high volume.
  • Support Maintenance and Operations when troubleshooting equipment and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate projects from planning through execution phases. The Jr PE should be able to create and track project schedules and budgets and make all necessary adjustments to keep the projects on track.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing concepts such as 5S training, Kaizen, TPM, and Lean Manufacturing events.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis for Safety Issues, Quality Issues, Efficiency Issues, and Machine Downtime through Six Sigma methodology.
  • Create creative solutions that prioritize speed, quality, and cost effectiveness.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work with EHS to ensure a safe working environment by establishing a strong base of the Safety Pyramid.
  • Created and revise standard operating procedures.
  • Create and Review drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness. Implement engineering changes and incorporate corrective action.

Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering
  • 3-5 years prior experience in a manufacturing environment and process deployment
  • Preferred to have previous experience and passion to work in R&D and Start Up Culture
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and a quick learning skills
  • Ceramics experience a plus
  • Battery and/or electrochemical systems a plus
  • Electrical design and installation for equipment required
  • Controls and Programming of DeltaV or PLCs a plus
  • Automation experience including CNC is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience working with a cross functional team
  • Passion and alignment with our mission, vision, values & operating principles
  • Ability and willingness to travel when required (Travel to up to 20% required)
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Parametric Modeling in CAD (SolidWorks) and Drafting proficiency

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This position operates both in a typical office environment, R&D laboratory and Testing, and production environment.

Position Type:

This is a full time, exempt level position.

Physical Demands:

This person must be able to perform normal office duties, sitting for extended periods of time and attending meetings as required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Lifting requirements include lifting up to 50-75 pounds.
