Job description

This position reports to Maintenance Manager/ Supervisor and is responsible for all maintenance, repair and modifications needed to maintain company’s equipment and support systems in the process of raw and finished goods. Set up of equipment and working with the production departments to ensure production and efficiencies are met daily. Mechanic is responsible to ensure equipment runs properly on any lines. Responsible for the training, repair, removal and installation of machines and equipment, as needed by production.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience Requirements:

High school diploma and a minimum of 3-10 years’ experience in the production maintenance field is required. Associate would need to have met all requirements and qualifications above an entry level mechanic. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision and be a self-starter. Must be able to work with work orders and respond to verbal orders. Work overtime hours and shift changes as needed. Must have the knowledge of industrial circuits and phase voltages. Must be able to wire complete circuits and modify as needed.

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform any assign duty satisfactorily.

  • Perform any and all responsibilities as given by the Department Manager/ Supervisor.
  • Work with department leadership and associates to schedule and complete work needed.
  • Able to Troubleshoot all electrical and mechanical issues pertaining to machinery and support equipment in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify and order parts needed for job or repairs through stockroom coordinator.
  • Work with associates and venders to identify problems with equipment, materials, or processes to rectify production problems through completion.
  • Set-up, complete, and maintain PM’s.
  • Work safely and professionally with electrical and control power circuits.
  • Understand and use (lockout/Tagout) per company’s requirements.
  • Able to Work overtime. Hours and shifts are modified to meet the production needs.
  • Be able to follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Understanding and use of PPE effectively and in conjunction with the department guide lines.
  • Any other duties, as assigned.

Physical requirements of position:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Must have the ability to work with and in a chemical environment using the proper personal protective equipment, as required. The associate must have the ability to climb stairs and be able to routinely perform maintenance duties while working on/off ladders, lifts, elevated locations, or in tight spaces and have the ability to work around running equipment with higher-than-normal noise levels. Must be capable of fast paced walking and carry of materials, parts, and stock room items, as well as be able to move and handle machinery parts and tools. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. The associate must have the ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written skills. The noise level in the department is usually noisy. Safety glasses are a requirement for designated areas throughout the facility and are provided by the company.

Requirements for the 3 Classes of Production Maintenance Mechanics are below:

CLASS C (SETUP Tech) Maintenance Technician Requirements: (or be able to learn)

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Able to operate all power/ hand tools, equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Know and understand basic electrical principals.
  • Ability to pass Mask fit test and wear respirator as needed/
  • Test/ replace fuses, repair & replace electrical cords and plugs on equipment.
  • Be able learn to read and use multi meters, and probes.
  • Be able to setup machines and assist production as needed.
  • Assist any Class B or A technicians with assigned tasks.
  • Keep lines running efficiently, to include Sealers, Lot Coders, Labelers, and Cappers etc.…
  • Be able setup and use scales and to read and understand measurements.
  • Know and understand drill bits, bolt and screw sizes etc…
  • Attention to detail and Teamwork Orientated.

CLASS B Maintenance Technician Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the production maintenance required.
  • Mastered all requirements and qualifications stated in the Requirements for the Class C Technician.
  • Work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter able to work with work orders and verbal requests from production departments.
  • Be able to obtain and operate a Power Industrial Forklift and Walkie.
  • Able to make operator level minor repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Assist any Class A technicians with assigned tasks or PMs.
  • Understand electrical wiring diagrams, circuits, and PLC functions.
  • Tech who is trying to achieve the A Class Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Able to fabricate parts and items from blueprints or drawings, Machining not required.

CLASS A Maintenance Technician Requirements:

  • 10 years of experience and keeps up with advanced training as needed to do their job correctly.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and complete a project without any assistance.
  • Knowledge of industrial circuits and voltages up to 480v three-phase w/ electrical troubleshooting.
  • Be able to test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Be able to direct the Class B and C technicians to task completion.
  • Able to Work overtime. Hours and shifts are modified to meet the production needs.
  • Understand electrical wiring diagrams, circuits, PLC functions, and programming.
  • Above average welding and cutting of different metals and materials such as plastics and composites.
  • Able to fabricate parts and items from blueprints or drawings, Machining not required.
  • Able to wire complete circuits and modify as needed.
  • Install, load programs to PLCs from laptops.
