About the role

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the day to day department production function while operating within defined Corporate, SBU and Plant policy, budgetary and performance standards

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee production activity to ensure timely responsiveness to both internal and external customers.
  • Control department costs by monitoring overtime and use of equipment and materials.
  • Review and reconcile weekly timesheets.
  • Liaison with Quality Control on all quality issues to co-develop cost effective business solutions to problems emanating in process or from incorrect usage of raw material.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on safe evacuation of product from all tanks. Must be able to explain safe operation of pumps, mixers, filters, lift trucks, etc. to subordinates.
  • Follow all quality assurance instructions on formulas related to proper sampling of product batches.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to maintain good housekeeping and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Be in constant communication with management to ensure an efficient flow on the Production Floor.
  • Lead and direct all team members. A strong leader, able to lead change is preferred.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and certified (where applicable) to execute their duties
  • General support of plant production and quality assigned by plant leadership.
  • Attend all safety meetings, report any safety incidents/accidents and understand and follow all Company and Plant Safety policies and Procedures.
  • Support for the SQF 2000 System.
  • Trained in the Kerry HACCP program in order to identify critical steps and their instructions critical to effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Complete multiple PVC tours throughout the shift and report findings to senior supervisor during PVC reviews.
  • Complete transition meetings at start and end of shift with outgoing and oncoming shift supervisor.

Qualifications and skills

  • College diploma, or University degree in an applicable field of study preferred,
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Manufacturing / factory environment with exposure to finished food product and product chemicals and raw materials.
  • 2+ years in leadership roles (food manufacturing preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and formulas.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with many types of people in a professional manner.
  • PC proficient as needed to accurately input data into the company data base.
  • Ability to understand and/or be trained to understand operating budgets and their preparation.
