ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) is currently looking for a motivated and energetic individual who is passionate about working with teens and wants to make a positive impact on the lives of young people. The Program Coordinator will assist with all aspects of coordinating and running multiple weeklong summer residential camps for middle school and high school students enrolled in the Migrant Education Applied Mathematics and STEM Program.
Under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator and the Director of Business Operations, the Program Coordinator will assist with the development and delivery of quality programs in all camp areas and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the program. The Program Coordinator will live with the students and Program Chaperones in the dorms throughout each weeklong camp, providing students with an enriching college life experience they will never forget.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
Under the supervision of the CPGE Regional Coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Assist the Program Associate in overseeing the daily activities and general program operations, and help ensure a quality camp experience for all students.
- Assist with staff training, scheduling, supervising staff and serving as an emergency contact for parents/guardians during the program and after normal business hours.
- Responsible for the safety and whereabouts of camp participants at all times.
- Monitor camp students to ensure compliance with camp rules and appropriate behavior.
- Ensure that all program area schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner.
- Be a leader in parent communication and address parent concerns in a timely manner.
- Interact effectively and professionally with camp staff and university departments, with campers’ best interest in mind.
- Maintain accurate program and administrative records, including COVID-related testing results, and follow-up protocols.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate level student or college graduate (not limited to Cal Poly Pomona students)
- Minimum age of 21 or older
- Good academic standing.
- Working with middle school students in a camp environment or with high school students in an educational or residential setting.
- Conflict resolution/management skills
- Experience, education or training in crisis intervention, peer counseling or advising, child/adolescent development is strongly recommended.
- Dependable, responsible, and able to meet the physical demands of this position.
- Experienced in supervising adolescents.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years experience in teaching, youth programs, recreation/camps, working with children, or in a related field.
- Knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/teen camps.
- Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity and trust.
- Self-starter; ability to anticipate next steps due to changing situations; proactively take actions necessary to produce results.
- Strong leadership, writing, and communication skills.
- Must be a role model to staff and students at all times, on-site and off-site.
- Highly dependable and responsible with reliable transportation. .
- Must supply solid references.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
WE OFFER:
- Part-time, non-exempt, temporary assignment
- $22.00 - $24.00 / Hour including applicable overtime pay up to 90 hours per week
- Work hours are Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Monday - Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.; and Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., plus additional hours as needed.
- Bi-weekly pay, plus room and board for each weeklong session
- Pre-program training during the week of June 5-9, 2023
- Training will include Cal Poly Pomona policies on sexual harassment, mandated reporting and the regulations of working with minors, as well as residential program logistics and daily operations.
