Position Overview:
In this role, you'll work in the Research and Development group to develop vehicle sub-system requirements and architecture for mechatronic solutions covering primarily Electric Vehicle powertrain and conventional engine/powertrain domains, with the possibility of working in the other domains including functional safety, cybersecurity, ADAS, body/cab, chassis, HMI, connectivity, and telematic.
This is a Hybrid role and can be based in our Lisle, IL or Rochester Hills, MI location. Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join the Controls and Software Sub-System requirements team at Navistar!
In this role, you'll work in the Research and Development group to develop vehicle sub-system requirements and architecture for mechatronic solutions covering primarily Electric Vehicle powertrain and conventional engine/powertrain domains, with the possibility of working in the other domains including functional safety, cybersecurity, ADAS, body/cab, chassis, HMI, connectivity, and telematic.
This is a Hybrid role and can be based in our Lisle, IL or Rochester Hills, MI location.
- Develop solutions to sustaining and new embedded requirements and architectures at sub-system and software levels primarily in the domains of Electric Vehicle powertrain and conventional engine/powertrain
- Identify, troubleshoot, contain, and permanently correct engineering issues in the embedded solutions developed and designed by Navistar as well as Tier I solutions
- Development of Controls requirements and controls DFMEA
- Work with other cross-functional teams in the embedded V-cycle (system engineering, product delivery, architecture, design and test) and coordinate activities to deliver in time
- Effectively communicate with management on major issues during development as well as post-production of embedded solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 5 years of experience in product design/development
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 3 years of experience in product design/development
OR
- PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
- Experience in analyzing and developing requirements for embedded system applications at the ECU level
- Knowledge or experience in developing system and software architecture
- Experience with automotive development process and the V-Model system development, and verification / validation framework is a plus
- Experience with ADC, PWM and CAN communications
- Knowledge of traditional requirements management tools (DOORS, Polarion)
- Experience in automotive Electric Vehicle powertrain and conventional engine/powertrain
- Experience linear and non-linear control system analysis
- Experience in developing observer and state estimation models
- Experience in model-based design using Matlab/Simulink
- Knowledge of BLDC motor control algorithms including FOC
- Experience in estimating efforts for requirements and architecture development project activities
- Experience in automotive functional safety (ISO-26262) and/or cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434) a plus
- Knowledge of Autosar BSW advantageous
- Strong communication skills
