St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin is Diageo's largest manufacturing facility in Ireland, and the largest stout brewery in the world, producing over three million pints of Guinness every day, supplying a growing Irish and UK market, and exporting to 90 global markets.
Our main beer brands are Guinness, Smithwick's and Harp. We also brew Carlsberg and Tuborg under licence for the Irish market, as well as a range of newer products including Hop House 13, Rockshore, and most recently Guinness 0.0. We seek to continually improve Diageo value, by supporting growth and releasing the potential of Beer for Diageo. In addition, we support Diageo's developing markets with Guinness Flavour Extract, a key ingredient which is exported to all of the overseas breweries that produce Guinness, ensuring consistent high quality and flavour worldwide.
About the role
The SJG facility is synonymous with Guinness and there are historic and branding reasons for retaining Guinness production at this facility. However, SJG is nearing maximum capacity, leaving little room for growth while sales and market reports show that demand for Guinness is growing in several export markets and especially in Africa and Asia Pacific.
As a result of SJG nearing capacity, Diageo have recently announced plans to build Ireland’s first purpose-built carbon neutral brewery on a greenfield site in Littleconnell, Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The new facility will brew lagers and ales including Rockshore, Harp, Hop House 13, Smithwick’s, Kilkenny and Carlsberg. When fully operational with a capacity of 2 million hectolitres, it will be the second largest brewing operation in Ireland after St. James’s Gate and support the future growth of Diageo Ireland’s beer brands.
The state-of-the-art brewery will be powered with 100% renewable energy and will harness the latest process technology to minimise overall energy and water consumption.
As the production of lagers and ales is transferred to the new facility it will enable St James’s Gate to increase the production of Guinness to meet global demand. Additionally, it will also support the delivery of Diageo’s Society 2030 commitments by crafting the physical space required for the use of renewable technologies at St James’s Gate.
As the Project Operations Lead for this exciting new greenfield CapEx project, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the operational delivery of this £200m project.
You and your Project Operations team will work closely with the Project Capex Engineering team. The Project Operations team will be responsible for designing and delivering the operational and organisational design of the brewery, from greenfield to commissioning and beyond.
You will need the capability to clearly define the critical path for the operational programme and the interdependencies between works streams.
The role, although based in St. James Gate, Dublin, will need significant time in Co. Kildare as the project progresses.
About you
This is a huge opportunity for someone who has developed within their area of expertise by attaining qualifications and/or specialism in operations leadership engineering.
You’ll have a strong understanding of project management, operational design, engineering standards, systems and processes. You’ll have excellent communication skills and be able to influence key partners to make timely decisions to improve value for business.
To be successful at this role, you’ll be able to adapt style & approach to different situations and lead cultural sensitivity. You will be flexible in approach but passionate about delivering the right outcomes.
