A Day in the Life of a Project Planner

As a Project Planner, you manage tasks, projects, and community engagement, work directly with our clients, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, pursue and win work, and reinforce our reputation as trusted experts. You work with other planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers to deliver a variety of exciting project types focused on making places and travel experiences better and more equitable for everyone. You are at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create award-winning plans that lead directly to implementation.

Our projects are at all different scales, from national pedestrian and bicycle planning research and design guidance for the Federal Highway Administration to State DOT and city pedestrian and bicycle master plans. We work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, transit, wayfinding, bike parking strategies, trails and greenways, complete streets, and urban street design guidelines, and we push ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity and innovation every step of the way.

Qualifications of a Project Planner:

• A bachelor's or master's degree in a related field or additional work experience in lieu of secondary education
• At least 5 years of planning experience at a consulting firm, public entity, non-profit, or higher learning institution (experience working in Washington or greater Pacific Northwest a plus)
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and multi-phased projects
• Strong writing skills and experience working as a support and/or primary author for planning or technical documents
• Relevant work experience in one or more of the following areas: active transportation planning, multimodal corridor studies, streetscape design, transit, transportation safety, SRTS, and trails
• Experience and interest in strategizing and conducting inclusive public outreach and engagement a plus.
• Successful track record working independently on completing and/or managing tasks
• Motivation to win work for a growing office including forming and managing client relationships, identifying potential opportunities, and developing proposals and interview materials
• Proficiency using Excel for data analysis as well as a working knowledge of ArcGIS and/or QGIS for demographic and market analysis
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Cloud apps (Illustrator and InDesign) are desirable

Work Schedule for a Project Planner:

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to 2 days per week.

The Seattle office of Toole Design is conveniently located in the heart of Seattle's Business District blocks from the Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, Central Public Library, and Waterfront. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit. RapidRide lines C, D and E stop right in front, and multiple Sound Transit express bus, light rail and Sounder Commuter rail lines are a short walk to the office. Bike lanes are close by on 2nd and 4th avenues.

We are targeting a salary range of $79,000 to $95,000 for this position.
