The Probation Department is recruiting for Probation Corrections Supervisors I who supervise correctional staff in the daily operations and activities of a juvenile detention and/or treatment facility; assign, review and evaluate the work of Probation Corrections Officers for an assigned unit; direct and supervise a variety of counseling and activity programs; and make regular rounds of a Juvenile Detention or treatment facility ensuring the safety and security of institution and wards.

Possess a U.S. High School diploma, General Educational Diploma (GED), or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Note: Incumbents are expected to participate in a force options training program, which includes repressing combative behavior, tactical negotiations, unarmed defensive tactics, and use of pepper spray.
OPTION 1:
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time work experience equivalent to San Bernardino County Probation Corrections Officer (PCO).
OPTION 2:
Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework which includes fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units in upper level coursework in psychology, sociology, criminology, criminal justice, or other closely related behavioral science field of study.
-AND-
Education: Completion of an associate's degree –or– sixty (60) semester (90 quarter) units of completed college coursework which includes fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units in areas listed above.
OPTION 4:
Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test -AND- seven (7) years of experience equivalent to San Bernardino County PCO.
NOTE: A list of coursework in a qualifying field or legible copies of transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) must be submitted with the application unless candidate has a completed qualified degree as listed above or higher. * Trainee level is not an equivalent journey level work experience.
The ideal candidate will possess diverse experience as a Probation Corrections Officer, with current Peace Officer status, including experience in juvenile detention, juvenile treatment programs, administrative and external programs assignments, leadership skills, and the ability to work as a member of a team, while demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills.
