Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Proposal Specialist to work out of our West Allis, WI office.The Proposal Specialist will prepare quality proposals that meet both customer and company needs. The Proposal Specialist plays a key role in capturing business and, thereby, supports the Company’s goals for growth and financial success.

Essential Duties

  • Analyze a Request for Proposal, assess the associated business opportunity and challenges, and identify resources required in responding to the request.
  • Participate in discussions with the customer, Sales, and/or others, as necessary to clarify the requested scope of service and/or supply, due dates, and other requirements.
  • Analyze market conditions, historical proposal and financial information, resources, and the competitive environment to develop a proposal strategy.
  • Develop and execute a plan for the preparation and on-time delivery of a proposal.
  • Manage internal and external resources as required to prepare a proposal.
  • Using information received from internal and external resources, prepare a proposal that is responsive to the customer requirements and clearly defines the proposed scope of service and/or supply.
  • Using cost input received from internal and external resources, calculate prices for each proposed scope of service and/or supply.
  • Organize and lead review meetings wherein subject matter experts and TAES management assess the risks, strategy, pricing, scope, and other details associated with a proposal.
  • Strategize with management and Sales to determine the final sale price for each service and/or supply option, incorporating the Company’s high-level financial and strategic goals.
  • Become a product expert in assigned product line(s).
  • Become an expert regarding the Toshiba organization and, thereby, understand and utilize available resources and capabilities, both domestically (TAES) and internationally (the Toshiba parent company in Japan and other Toshiba companies).
  • Develop relationships with key subcontractors as necessary to secure timely and competitive cost estimates and quotes.

Education and Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 3+ years related experience in a large organization; international experience helpful
  • Previous experience in power generation preferred
  • Previous experience in estimating/quoting services and/or equipment sales preferred
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software a plus
  • Strategy development experience a plus
  • Resource management experience a plus
  • Task planning, leadership, and execution experience a plus
  • Customer interface experience a plus
  • Strong business and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills required
  • Financial analysis familiarity
  • Service contracts familiarity

The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

The majority of this work takes place in an office and the work environment is that of a typical office environment in a manufacturing setting where noise levels are usually moderate. Frequently the employee will interact with personnel in the plant where he/she may be exposed to higher noise levels.
