Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press (CSHL Press) is seeking a Publications Marketing Associate. This new position will have an important role in the creation of marketing campaigns for scientific books and journals based on online product use analysis, customer data mining, targeted messaging, social media posting, and website usage. The Publications Associate will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Product Development, other department members, and external organizations in support of the Press revenue goals.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing statistics and marketing reports using various sources and reporting tools (eg Google Analytics, Crystal Reports, proprietary databases)
• Identifying and monitoring key trends in customer sales and online activity
• Working with colleagues in Technology, Marketing, and Finance to enrich customer information in Press databases
• Assisting with updating and maintenance of Press websites
• Gathering competitive information and other market intelligence

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in an area of communications or marketing
Experience: 1 year of related experience
Skills and experience:

• Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint. Experience with databases would be an advantage)
• Fluency with trends, tools, and techniques for the deployment of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media
• Experience with web campaign and analytics /statistics software (eg Hootsuite and Google Analytics) would be an advantage
• Highly organized, with excellent follow-up skills
• A team player, with the ability to work independently
• Familiarity with web page creation (HTML, CSS, etc)
• Experience in marketing including e-mail and web-based approaches would be an advantage
• Experience in the publishing industry and a background or interest in science would be an advantage
