The Quality Engineer assists the manager to ensure the plant Quality Management System (QMS) requirements are established, implemented, and maintained as planned, and to report on its performance. You will report to the Quality Manager of Grenada South (onsite at Grenada South)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Þ Assist the Quality Manager to develop the plant QMS and ensure its understanding of the Modine Global Quality Management System. Report on the QMS status, recommend and implement ongoing QMS improvements. Help to improve processes owned by the Quality Department.

Þ Using the Global 8D system (Prism Portal), facilitate plant-wide corrective and preventive action and problem resolution of customer complaints, field failures, internal plant quality issues, internal and external audit findings, and supplier issues to ensure prompt responses. Report status to plant management.

Þ Conduct failure analysis of returns from the customer for failure confirmation, cause and corrective actions. Report results to the appropriate internal and external groups.

Þ Monitor and report status of assigned customer scorecards/performance. Work with other plant departments to improve scores. Maintain positive relationships with customers.

Þ Exercise authority to prevent shipment of non-conforming products.

Þ Participate in quality planning for the products and processes of the plant. This can be new or transfer products/processes coming to the plant. Use the tools available (including APQP, NPI and PRR) to ensure implementation.

Þ Work with staff to develop strategy and promote long-term success of the facility.

Þ Understand and practice MOS Behaviors and Principles. Identify and collect internal knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned experiences, then apply this knowledge in new situations.

Þ Work with the Quality Manager to develop and implement personal Annual Performance Goals (part of your Performance Process) that support our strategic goals.

Þ Become subject matter expert on the Modine Quality System and customer requirements and work with others to ensure compliance.

Þ Help develop Work Instructions for quality and production personnel to assure they support quality requirements. Participate in APQP activity as assigned, including:

  • Coordinate the introduction of new or changed processes and products. This includes establishing timing plans, assisting with D&P FMEA development, and Control Plan development
  • Measurement Systems Analysis
  • Process capability determination
  • Inspection procedure & dimensional layout technique development
  • Design or specify inspection and testing equipment.
  • Reaction plan development

Þ Design, install, and evaluate quality process sampling systems, and appropriate statistical techniques.

Þ Review newly introduced and changed Specifications (Design, Engineering, Process, and Quality). Revise plant quality requirements to reflect the new or changed requirements.

Þ Establish and analyze on the major quality indicators for the plant. Use accepted capability indicators (CP, Cpk, PPM).

Þ Conduct internal audits of products and systems, identify and follow-up on areas for improvement, and assist with the implementation and follow-up of corrective action.

Þ Oversee in process audits of plant manufacturing operations.

Þ Direct the preparation for customer, third-party, and corporate quality system audits. Participate in the audits and represent the plant.

Þ Occasional travel to other Modine locations, customers, and suppliers


Standard Work Requirements:

  • Monitor incoming inspection
  • Monitor failure analysis
  • Monitor process and product auditing

§ 8D meetings

§ Monitor process audits including reports and 8D response to findings

§ Monitor QMS internal auditing including reports and 8D response to findings

§ Standard 1 on 1 meetings

§ BBS Audits

o Monthly

§ Customer metrics

§ QMS Internal and External audit metrics

§ Report on process audit metrics

§ QMS Internal audit scheduling and audit review


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Practical experience in quality system implementation and auditing with knowledge of ISO 9001: 2015.
  • Must have solid project management, communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in PC skills (Spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets))
  • Proficient in Auditing (product, process, systems)
  • Proficient in basic problem-solving tools (8D, PDCA, 5-Why, Cause / Effect)
  • Experience in Control Plans and Control Plan Development
  • Experience with core quality tools such as FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, QSA

Desirable experience (in addition to the above) includes:

  • Quality tools (Pareto, flowcharts, control charts, check sheets, scatter diagrams, histograms)
  • Basic working knowledge in statistical methods (SPC, process capability indexes)
  • Metrology
  • Six Sigma training / certification
  • Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

o Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Business, or other related field), plus 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or manufacturing engineering.


TRAVEL:

o 5 - 10% Travel time.
