Job Summary:

Performs radiographic, mammographic, and/or CT procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision or technical detail, performs variety of procedures that require independent judgment. Provides complete and quality service to physicians and patients.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

Prepare patients for radiologic procedures. Escort patients to dressing and imaging rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety and comfort during scan. Confirming patient identification with 2 identifiers.

Reviewing patients’ charts and Doctors’ notes before the examination and maintaining patients’ records during and after procedures.

Preparing radiopharmaceuticals for contrast in the diagnostic images.

Operate radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

Position radiologic equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of examination. Take x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.

Process digital images prior to sending to PACS.

Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and team members.

Completes patient in EMR by finalizing exam.

Retrieve radiologic orders from and input related data into the electronic medical record.

Maintain adequate radiologic supplies.

Ensuring the proper sterilization and storage of the equipment, maintaining radiographic equipment, and reporting any equipment failures to the Director.

Serve as a back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow, documenting injectables in the EMR.

Uses Teleradiology per policy

Operate head or body x-ray scanners which create a computer-generated cross-sectional image (CAT scan)

Responsible for educating and preparing patients for their examination

Provide patient care that is essential to the performance or a variety of procedures (Biopsy, etc.)

Take patient medical history before an exam assuring safe use of contrast and drug interaction (metphormin)

Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology, including correct patient, imaging site, and positioning protocol

Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated

Assume responsibility for the radiation safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients

Understands and uses the PACS system

Prepares patients by confirming patient identification, reviewing imaging requests, and checking for any special instruction

Completes annual MRI safety education

Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compressing mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view

Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.

Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures

Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventative maintenance

Keeps mammography supplies stocked in inventory

Documents patient mammography services by completing patient record charting in the EMR.

Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities including gaining CEU’s annually as required by Federal law.

Performs QA on mammography equipment and documents results.
