About the role

RD&A associate scientist to conduct sensory-guided fractionation of food extracts to further isolate and identify active compounds to support the continuous creation and production of new taste modulation technologies.

Key responsibilities

RD&A Associate Scientist, are to:

  • Independently conduct sensory-guided fractionation of food extracts to isolate and identify active fractions using various techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, open column resin and prep HPLC fractionation, etc.
  • Independently design and conduct sensory evaluation tests by traditional methods and via instrumentation (TAstation) to answer relevant sensory questions
  • Report and present experiment results, writing formal reports when appropriate
  • Ability to conduct extensive literature review on relevant topics of interest to the team
  • Work closely with other scientists to conduct analysis using Liquid Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and HPLC analysis to perform qualification or quantification analysis on target or unknown compounds from different origins
  • Assistant team members in Taste modulation development from ideation to scale up
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Participate in lab maintenance and housekeeping activities
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment

Qualifications and skills

Qualification Requirements

  • BS in food science, or a related degree
  • Strong understanding of sensory science including methodologies and statistical interpretation
  • Fundamental understanding of chemical separation and techniques
  • Ability to conduct basic scientific laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and troubleshooting skills for laboratory instrumentations
  • Excellent organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively as part of a team
