We look for team-oriented individuals, to help us create quality experiences for every young person in our summer camp programs. Counselors are vital members of our summer team. We value growth and opportunities to learn and grow as an individual and future professional in your field of study. Gain valuable experience with curriculum development each week, implantation of lesson plans, student, and behavior management, how to lead a group and increased communication skills.
Position Details
The Camp Counselor position provides onsite leadership to youth, assists in the development and organization of daily camp activities and implementing the experiences in small groups. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Assists with program creation of daily plans and group activities in a camp setting.
- Organizes and facilitates activities (i.e., camping, canoeing, sailing, fishing).
- Oversees all activities and ensures a safe, friendly, and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
- Communicates with and greets the parents of the campers daily.
- Identifies and responds to camper behaviors.
- Ensures all supplies are ready for the proper facilitation of the daily lesson plans.
- A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities to fully participate in camp activities.
- Is on time and enthusiastic to perform the requested job responsibilities.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees may be called upon to perform a variety of duties in their roles with the City.
Position Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years of age by training date of June 1, 2023
- Ability to work entire season June – August
- CPR and First Aid certification must be completed in the first 30 days of employment
- Previous experience working or volunteering with children required.
- Experience developing and implementing programs and activities, good communication skills, teamwork, and flexibility.
- Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Pre-employment Process
The City of Eden Prairie conducts professional reference and criminal history checks for all employees joining the organization. In addition, the following is required for this specific position: drivers check (must have valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record). All final candidates must successfully complete and pass the pre-employment process before their first day of employment.
