- Set-ups and break-downs of Departmental and citywide events.
- Moves a variety of supplies and equipment for Department programs and special events.
- Follows specific set up and breakdown location maps for all special events.
- Inspects assigned sites and equipment regularly regarding condition, safety, and degree of use; recommends more complex maintenance and repair if needed.
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Completes and submits all required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion. (i.e.; timesheets, injury reports, and daily work logs).
- Drives a City vehicle to various locations to perform duties.
- Responds to phone calls and/or text messages
- Submits 311 requests for identified repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- $17.00 PER HOUR, this position will not exceed 1000 hours in 2023
- Must possess a High school diploma, GED or higher. Completion of some college or trade school classes is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must be willing and able to begin training in April, with up to full-time hours starting in early May and continuing through early November.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of hazards and necessary precautions required when lifting and moving various items.
- Ability to work with, mentor, and supervise staff.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment necessary for safe operation of items and vehicles.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions for the safe operation of moving aids, tie downs and set up items.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and locate addresses within the City of Evanston boundaries illustrated on a Map and set items up in the appropriate location.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to greet and communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to multi-task in performing various duties, requests and responsibilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such cold, high winds, rain, high temperatures, and humidity.
- Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor including, but not limited to, lifting heavy objects, climbing, sitting or standing for long periods of time; bend, crawl, identify or distinguish colors, recognize depth of objects, focus on small or distant objects, talk and hear.

- Ability to lift chairs and tables and deliver heavy merchandise to departments.

This position performs work under the direction of the Recreation Services Manager or designee. Work includes setting up and tearing down for Department and city sponsored special events. Most special events occur from early May – early November. Work includes picking up, moving setting up and breaking tents, stages, tables, chairs and equipment for department special events and programs. Staff will be scheduled up to 40 hours/week and schedules may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

SUPERVISION :
Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Services Manager or designee. Assignments may vary from day to day. Assignments can be either verbal or written, with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings and feedback from supervisors and other department employees. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Personnel Rules and OSHA. Work is evaluated at least once per season for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standard. Staff is responsible for site inspections, ongoing observations, and written and verbal communications.
PUBLIC CONTACT :
The employee has contact with the general public in residential areas and with the public using parks and recreational areas. The employee may need to respond to questions and complaints and provide general direction to the public; the employee has regular contact with other City employees in order to share information and complete work assignments. Any questions, concerns, or complaints arising in the field will be forwarded to the Recreation Services Manager.
